First off, I really don't think Prime is going to send you packing because your fat. But if you fit the BMI profile and refuse to take a Sleep Study Test, you will be history.
It's not just Prime!
Hate to say it folks, but the BMI thing is here to stay. The companies that are now implementing the procedure are just trying to stay a step ahead of DOT regulations. It's only a matter of time (sooner than you think) before the self righteous safety groups get their way and push legislation through that will require testing of all driver for Sleep Apnea.
The forward thinking companies that start this process now will be leaps and bounds ahead of the companies that are currently sticking their head in the sand and pretending like the controversy will pass.
What will separate the good companies from the bad (from the drivers point of view) is how they treat their drivers in the process.
Schneider has been doing this for 2-3yrs now and my company has also started testing new hires and have established a sleep study center at one of our terminals and have started targeting "high risk" current drivers from that terminal for testing. I can only assume that once they have gone through those drivers they will start expanding their test pool.
Fortunately, my employer has seen the benefit of building their own testing facility. For starters they pay the full cost of the testing, and in the event that a CPAP machine is required, they sell the units at cost (significantly less than what sleep study centers are selling them for) and allow the driver to pay for it via payroll deductions.
By doing this the average driver is out of service for 2-3 days instead of what was often a month plus when our drivers had go through their own doctors after being targeted for a sleep study when renewing their DOT physical.
The problem is, we as truck drivers are an easy target for all the do-gooder politicians who feel they need to look good in the eyes of their constituents. They will just keep walking over us like they have always done becuase we as a group will never do anything about it other than complain. It's just the nature of the game.
Just wait until those nasty CSA 2010 scores kick into effect and I can't wait for the EOBR either.truckerdave1970 and scatruck Thank this. -

We asked the recruiter who had to pay for the study... They will not pay for it. Not even as a payroll deduction. I have to get it before I even go to the Company for the first class. I never said I wasn't fat. I am. That wasnt the point of this thread. The issue is, people who are looking for a job need to know what is going on ahead of time. Not just when they tell me, which would most likely have happened at orientation, and I would have had to go home, wait to save the money for the test, and then go through to process all over again. I did not intend for this to be a fat advocacy thread or a debate over whether or not I am fat.

Then why start a thread with the heading " prime dont like fat peaple " if all you wanted to do was inform "people who are looking for a job need to know what is going on ahead of time ".
