FCC--Fremont Contract Carriers

I run the range device in my 07 Sierra never used any oil put a new 5.3 gm crate motor in it at 237.500 miles now it has almost 300000 on it.

 

I kept that gmc until 87 and bought a lightly used 85 silverado with the 6.2 diesel in it .
They wernt big on power but it would get high teens and low 20s for fuel mileage.
I regret selling that truck !

 

I have that range on my 5.3 too.

 

Easiest way to disable it.

 

My roommate owns a 79 Chevy Scottsdale pickup. He's lucky if he gets that much mpg.

Well to cheer for your side Chris I'm of the opinion that the Ford crown vic is probably the best car ever built , I had an 85 and man that was a good car !

 

The GM 3.6 V6 is one of the worst engines ever made. To add insult to injury, it replaced the Buick 3800 V6, probably one of the best engines ever made. The AFM system on GM's are garbage as well.

Other automakers aren't much better. Chrysler has been making junk for years. Ford isn't much better than them. Even Toyota's don't last as long anymore. Them putting turbochargers on everything is partly to blame. It's fact and common sense that turbocharged gasoline motors don't last as long as naturally aspirated ones. The other part is just planned obsolescence. They don't make anything to last anymore. They're just throw away items. Even the cars I own have their own few issues. The rear ends don't like not being maintained, and the window regulators like to go out.

I will also guarantee you that your pickup will last a hell of a lot longer than your wife's and daughter's SUV, and many other vehicles. GM's 2500/3500 pickups are a lot better made than their 1/2 ton trucks or other vehicles for some reason.


These just aren't my opinions either. I've talked to a couple mechanics of which cars to buy and to run from. If I didn't like the feel of traditional American luxury cars I'd probably be driving a Camry or Civic. Honestly the new Blazer hasn't been out for long enough to know what long term problems they have. I just don't like GM management's decision to bring back a historic and legendary nameplate for yet another crossover that looks like all the other crossovers on the road.

I had a '90 LTD Crown Victoria as my first car. It was awesome. Do you have any issues with the AFM system on your Silverado? Because they're junky systems on the best of days.

 

And before anyone complains I'm not a GM hater. There's plenty of Ford's that are junk and I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. I've always wanted an older Caprice or Cadillac Fleetwood. My grandmother had a forest green '72 sedan deVille that I would love to find and restore.
