That reading tends to be unreliable, at least in my truck. What that reads and what the truck actually reads are two different things. If my APU conks out, I just idle the truck. I’m pretty sure the upkeep on those things negate the cost of idling the truck.

Plus I can’t be assed to keep turning the truck on and off all the time

It started squalling just a little bit before the belt broke. I shut it off, looked it over and checked the oil, then briefly ran it with the cover off and could see the fan belt was the source of the noise and that it was vibrating a lot. Shut it off again and felt the belt and the two pulleys I can reach. The belt and the fan pulley were hot but the alternator was oven hot. Tension seemed okay. Let it sit for a few hours then started it again to hopefully run it for an hour or so but it lasted about 5 minutes. Checked it this morning when it had cooled down and I had some light and the alternator does turn (though it seems like it takes more effort than it should) but I haven’t touched anything on the bottom of belt path. My theory is the alternator is going but it could be a tensioner or some other thing (I ain’t a mechanic). Unit has been trouble free since the last time they replaced the belt.

I’m trying to avoid idling it constantly to lessen the chances of getting a ticket. If I was in the Midwest I’d just run the truck.

FWIW night dispatch told me to hang on to the broken belt and call breakdown on Tuesday to get a final answer but almost certainly I’m going to need to live without an APU till I get back to Fremont or CB (truck will be due for service by then anyhow). Also got a rock chip in the middle of the windshield. It’s a Cascadia so they should be able to do it quickly but the truck is building up a decent list of niggles for it’s next visit to the shop.

That clean idle sticker on your truck, that’s on your driver side door signifies that your truck is cleaning enough to idle in the state of California

Ended up going to Menards for my mini fridge. Walmart didn’t have anything and the one at Lowe’s was too big. It even fits in my trunk IMG_2990.jpeg
