That is correct. But for me, this is NOT a deal breaker!

    Nope.... “nothing will change”... ;-)

I would love to see the reasoning and logic behind it... are they trying to tie the actual cost of fuel to each load? Getting better pricing based on location? Run with as little fuel in the tanks as possible?

Curious minds wish to know... :)

Yes, MD, that’s what O/O do too. Only enough fuel on each load to run it. I know for us who don’t have to run that way, it seems odd, but that’s the way it’s done. I asked a friend of mine who was a O/O once why not just get all the fuel you need for the week no matter the load and I got a very long detailed response. My eyes glazed over after about the third sentence.

I do wonder if I am going to make it to my next fuel stop in OKC from Florence SC on 127 gallons carrying 43k in the box and no APU.

While I can see the potential, at larger companies, in not having capital tied up in full fuel tanks, on an individual basis we are talking about $600 of fuel in a $150k Truck... thinking if I were to ever run O/O, if ever, I’d just roll that perceived first tank of fuel into the cost of the Truck and then I would just be replenishing the fuel as I used it... that would actually tie fuel consumption to the loads... albeit I would be adding weight to the Truck but that would only be when I actually “topped off”.

But, like I said, at a larger company with say 500 Trucks, that simple $600 of fuel on one truck becomes $300,000 rolling down the roads not doing anything... so the “real savings” is probably the cost of capital on that extra $200,000 every day... and a possible slight increase in MPG x 500 trucks for not carrying the added weight.

But again, I’d like to see the real numbers that justify running a truck like that... not saying the company isn’t saving money as they would not do it but thinking some bean counter sold someone on how much that extra $200k is costing them if they used that to lower their cost of credit/capital.

    Darn Bean Counters... lol

I have been on fuel solution since I started and have had only 1 issue and Ben corrected it. My truck is getting good fuel mileage and knock on wood haven’t ran out of fuel or been close enough

They do it keep actual fuel costs as low as possible.
Subtract the IFTA tax from the pump price, that the actual Fidel cost.
These numbers are just made up
State A pump price $3.00 per gallon with a 20 cent a gallon IFTA tax
State B pump price is $3.05 a gallon With a 30 cent a gallon IFTA tax.
State B actual fuel cost is $2.75 a gallon State A is actual fuel cost is $2.80 a gallon.
When they file their quarterly IFTA tax they will either get a refund or pay the difference in what their actual fuel tax should be based on miles in each state.
This example shows that their actual fuel costs are a nickel a gallon cheaper by simply making fuel purchases in state B
