Magnum didn’t either…. I think that’s ‘industry standard’…. At least you’re using their fuel and tires!Speedy356, runningman0661, M22 rockcrusher and 1 other person Thank this.

Which is why I left them. Deadheading home 700 miles without a dime is unacceptable in my eyes.
And also Schneider paid those miles, and they're a mega carrier, so...M22 rockcrusher Thanks this. -
They do pay you coming out of the house to pick up a load, just not going home empty or out of route. From a company standpoint, why would they? They pay for the fuel and don't squak about out of route miles or how long your home like some companies, so I think it's more than fair. They have to make money too, and they aren't making anything when the truck is heading home empty.ncmickey, MidWest_MacDaddy, Speedy356 and 5 others Thank this.

It's just a moral thing that I have. I didn't gripe about FCC's part much because it was always under a few hours drive time and I never had to backtrack to get home.
That being said, I don't like working most of the day for free. If you're on line 3, you're at work. Most companies say that once you drop or deliver your last load, you're no longer under any load whatsoever. Which I agree with. But using that logic, since I have no work to do that benefits the company, I can just use PC and go home. But most companies don't allow that, so I'm forced to use line 3, which by definition is considered working, since I'm on duty and driving.
I never gave FCC trouble about it because it was only a few hours and only happened every few weeks if I didn't have a load to take home.
Magnum is why it left a sour taste in my mouth about this subject. They would deadhead me home from OKC, Dallas, or from god knows where in Wyoming, require me to use line 3, but then not pay me a dime for technically working for several hours.
I don't know if this makes sense, but I hope I made my point across. -
Solution. If you chose to make your home in Salina choose a job closer to home and not 200 miles away.

We also don’t get paid to deadhead home for hometime either. But for me I could care less. Whenever I get my Jacksonville load for hometime , I know 2 things, 1) I’m deadheading 290 miles to the house, and 2) it’s another day off added to my hometime. I figure if operations is to dumb to plan better, I could care less about the miles. Being home en mi casa is far more important to me than worrying about 290 miles.gntorres61, ncmickey, MidWest_MacDaddy and 5 others Thank this.

Or switch fleets so you don't have to worry about that, like I did.dwells40 and M22 rockcrusher Thank this.

Also if carriers would throw out the archaic pay per mile structure and move to hourly and/or salary pay, it would solve the issue too, as well as others.
There's even some carriers that pay by percentage of the load, which I don't know why anyone would work for said carriers. Because once the economy goes in the toilet, there goes your pay. -
You’re still pretty green aren’t you?BoostedTeg, ncmickey, IH9300SBA and 8 others Thank this.
