I feel for all the families of all the victims involved, but I must say I probably see more Fed ex driver's flying down the road than any ofthe other LTL companies ,especially on I81 inPennsylvania ,no one knows for sure what caused that driver to lose control ,but I will bet you every personal injury lawyer in California is licking his chops to file a lawsuit against Fed Ex !
No. This will give the industry as a whole another bruise, just makes PATT & CRASH look correct. What they have been reporting is that the driver was trying to avoid another car in the crash.
Thanks there guys. I was very wrong by assumption. Drivers - bus and truck 1 each. OK - my turn. Yes. Freight - 65 governed. Will pass at .000001mph in any conditions. Will tailgate, box in, and I've seen involved in serious wrecks because of said behavior. Yes. Ground. Ungoverned. Always at high speed. Often questionable experience/ brains. Small fleet operated and leased on, heard maintenance horror stories. Custom - usually single owner ops. Not usually a danger. Definitely a tragic wreck. But not necessarily an accident. I challenge you to find me a safety number for FED Ex - ground/ freight or otherwise. I've looked, believe me. I've needed it before for very good reason. Can't find. I know all a company's drivers are not the same, but, like many of you, I observe thousands of habits a day and can't help but form an opinion. And - for all their 'ATA presidents Safety Trophy' blah blah - you know? Heck - even some of their package delivery guys drive like idiots. That's my bash.
Here on I-5, SAIA and ESTES are the biggest for speed, UPS is generally at 57, WalMart is 58 (unless you try to pass then they play the "can't pass me game up to 61).
I've seen plenty of GTI and Interstate speed through Cali, especially NorCal around Dunsmuir, Weed, and in the mountainous sections where I wouldn't dare to because of how the freeway is set up. When I did a stint at GTI, there were more than a few guys coming into Rancho and Lathrop who had just received safe driving awards for 15+ on the Grapevine.
I'm in that sub category of drivers, and the bad actors just make it more diffcult for me. They're not all the same, but I totally agree with you. I should say "we're not all the same".
You're correct, both companies have their share of the "gotta get there yesterday" crowd! The entire CA I-5 will see a great uptick in truck enforcement I believe...and it is really over-due, especially between 2300-0500 both North and South of Sacramento!
I read that part about the driver possibly trying to avoid that car.My question is how fast was Fed EX going.Judging from the photo, both drivers were going at a high rate of speed.Which is especially bad for FedEx in Calif.I look for their trucks to be governed in the near future.
