Got into the Lenexa hub and broke down my set at 10:30 last night. Apparently, and this was mentioned to me yesterday morning, this was a time sensitive run. They gave me 13 hours to do it, and it was done in 11, could have been done in 10, but I lost an hour at the TN/KY border because of road work. As I cleared the Geofence here in Lenexa, I had 2 yard jockeys meet me at the drop section and helped me breakdown the set so they could spot the trailers for unload and sorting.

So, here is some numbers I put together , while driving up here yesterday. I drove the most miles 611 yesterday, since December 26th when I left the house after Christmas and brought the previous companies truck back to Richmond. My first week here I drove 1584 miles for the week, my second week I drove 1696 miles. My third week was 796 miles due to home time. This week, will be the most miles driven, when done, I should be at 2625. I don’t know why my mind goes to miles driven, I guess it’s how I’ve been doing this and getting paid the last 40+ years. Now the only miles I watch are the ones I get over 2000 per week, those are the bonus miles after my guaranteed salary that are paid at .75cpm. I am now completely aligned with OTR here, I figure, based on how my contractor is set up with FedEx and how the pay week is scheduled, 2400-2700 miles per week will be the high and low average. For me, that’s perfect. That comes out to $2350-$2525 per week. One side note, out of all the trailers I have hooked to, I’ve only built and broke down 5 sets, the rest have been 53 footers. I need to get out of the “miles, CPM” run run run” vortex and get into the “guaranteed” way of thinking. Another thing about this deal, no more worrying about a parking spot at 11pm at night, no more paying for reserved parking, and the availability of showers 25 feet from my truck is pretty cool.

Back at Murfreesboro. Got in at midnight last night. Here are my numbers for my first full week of doing linehaul here at FedEx.

    Monday
Memphis to Olive Branch 19 miles
Olive Branch to Memphis 19 miles
    Memphis to Humboldt 101 miles
    Humboldt to Murfreesboro 174 miles

    Tuesday
    Murfreesboro to Lenexa 611 miles

    Wednesday
    Lenexa to KCMO 42 miles
KCMO to Henderson Colorado 612 miles

    Thursday
Henderson Colorado to Lenexa 594 miles

    Friday
    Lenexa to Murfreesboro 611 miles

    Total miles……..2783
    Total sets…….…6
    Total 53’s…….…2
    Bobtail……….…1

    First 2000 miles…….…..$2000.00
    783 miles x.75………….….587.25
    Total earnings…………...$2587.25

Off until Monday. I would be happy just working for the guarantee of $2000 up to 2000 miles. I had a few weeks of 1300-1585 miles where I got the guarantee but trust me, there’s far too much downtime. The 2783 miles from what I can see is on the high end. I’m thinking this will be, on a busy week, right at 2400 miles. I look back and compare what I’m doing now as opposed to what I did at the last company. When I had those 4000 mile weeks, which I had a ton of, I was making $2200 per week and killing myself. The bonus that I earned, didn’t pay until the following month, came to another $650. This here that I’m doing is the perfect job for me at this stage of my life.

Always heard about these type of jobs. I’m just kicking myself for not doing it earlier. This is what is meant by “working smarter, not harder”

Fedex ground hasn’t always been like this though. Solo OTR is fairly new and very few drivers out there doing what you are. Everyone is either local solo or team OTR.

    JohnBoy and Lonesome Thank this.

I know. I’m the only solo OTR in this contractors fleet. Before I agreed to come on, this solo position had to be worked on and it was during August and September. October I was offered this position. I do, at times run local.

I have a question about Fedex equipment...what does it mean when either the trailer or the dolly is beeping? I have heard that beeping over the years and always wondered why.

JohnBoy, Speedy356 and kylefitzy Thank this.

Hopefully @JohnBoy can answer that question. Only Fedex ground trailers have that beeping, FXF trailers doesn’t have that beeping!

Id like to know the answer to that question too?:D

It means you haven’t put air in them. All you’ve done is connected all lines.

austinmike, Lonesome, dwells40 and 4 others Thank this.
