Is anybody hauling to Texas for FEMA right now?
One of my brokers said I can start doing them tomorrow if they are still available, just curious if anyone has hauled to Texas during this tragedy.

I will call my Broker in the morning and see what they have for FEMA loads going to Texas, im sure they are putting out the word.

Make sure you have heavy money going in there, if it's worth it. And get daily rate charges noted on rate con...I heard about a guy being on a GA to TX dry run for $2,300. He was happy getting that rate. When asked what he was looking forward to and what he charged for the daily rate, he never responded.

The one thing I would worry about with FEMA loads, other than I heard it's basically low pay, is how far would one have to deadhead to get a load going out.

A friend of mine did those for Landstar a number of years back when FL got hit by 4 hurricanes in one year. He got mileage pay to haul water to the Homestead military base where they staged a bunch of trucks, then was paid $750/day to sit there waiting for FEMA to dispatch them to needed areas. They stocked and opened the base commissary for them so they had food, opened one of the barracks so they had bathroom and shower facilities, and even came around every morning with a trailer tanker and topped their fuel tanks off if they needed it. He said it was the best gig he ever did, the only catch was that you had to ready to roll at any moment once FEMA called. Not sure if they still do that post-Katrina or not.
