My trainer at Schneider was female. I don't know what the actual breakdown is, but I've personally run into more female trainers in my time here than male. They have a strict policy that when training the opposite gender, one of you must sleep in a hotel each night. You're not even supposed to be in the sleeper area at any time with an opposite gender trainee.

The bigger trucking companies usually have a few male trainers that have experience and ability to work with women trainees. The bigger companies also seem to have it worked out to immediately to place you with another male trainer if you tell them you had an incident or don't feel comfortable with the current trainer. Since there are not many women in the industry you HAVE TO SPEAK UP and you HAVE TO SET BOUNDARIES using your words at the start, not just assume anything or hope for the best. If YOU DON'T SPEAK UP NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IS HAPPENING. Your treatment and experience is most important to you. It is a lot less important to everyone else in the company. If your plan is to be polite, ignore as much as you can,and then hope nothing uncomfortable is said or done you are being unreasonable. You have a right to have the company, the trainer, and everyone around you be professional. But everyone has their own definition so YOU HAVE TO SPEAK UP at the first instance, not wait and hope for improvement or wait for some psychic signal to drift across the universe so something changes. That's not fair to anyone. The nature of trucking means 99% of the time one person will be driving and the other person asleep. The best thing you can do is have a chat with the trainer AT THE VERY START about which words and behavior are unacceptable and which are necessary. You also have no right to require anything but acceptable behavior. If a curse word or opinion is too much for you, stay home. NOBODY needs another Political Officer enforcing opinions or word choice. Plenty of women have trained with male trainers. Either go somewhere with women trainers and then sit patiently and wait for one, maybe for no pay while you wait, or go to a company that trains women and has procedures in place. The company is NOT going to change for you, but you have every choice in the world about where you DECIDE to go to work. Choose wisely.NightWind, Another Canadian driver, Gearjammin' Penguin and 1 other person Thank this.

Go with Schneider. It's only a week on the road and you'll be in a hotel every night (or in the truck while the trainer goes to the hotel). The trainers who take women are generally a step ahead and will definitely treat you with respect.Another Canadian driver and GypsyGirl Thank this.

You still haven't posted which state you live in.

Yes I second that motion, if I was a trainer I would flat out refuse to train a female driver for very obvious reasons, I'm surprised that any company would put a male trainer with a female again for very obvious reasons. Perhaps if it was just a day trip only, but definitely no overnight trips. You would think common sense would prevail here?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I’ve trained women drivers before, but, they slept in a motel, I stayed in the truck.
Then when I worked for Boasso America(Now Boasso Global) they were out and back loads, so when training, you’d get a short out and back like 280 miles outs, same back, so you’d be at terminal that night, they’d go to motel or home if they lived in or near the terminal.
But I never tried any funny stuff, my ole lady don’t play like that,
This lady facial here ain’t got nothing on hers.

Yea training a person where one needs a hotel at todays prices are not gonna happen at most places.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
As other have suggested ,
Have one person get trained , and after that person gets a certain amount of experience, usually most companies will let that person train the other spouse.
and if I were a trainer there is zero possibility of me taking in a female newbie to train
all they have to do is claim you touched them or harassed them and your career is over .NightWind and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
