How does one figure the FET on buying a used truck?

For example, if I were to locate a truck for around $35,000, what would my approximate out the door cost be minus plate and insurance?

FET is 12$ and is imposed on the first retail sale of certain heavy vehicles.

I don't think there is a FET on used trucks.

    Many thanks, drivers!

Working towards my first truck, planning on buying a decent used truck now and parking it to work on all the major (hopefully none) and minor mechanical issues before I plate it and put it to work.

    I think it's 9% on new vehicles.

You’ll only pay the 12% FET on used trucks if they are imported from Canada.

Hegemeister and Bean Jr. Thank this.

Some states have an exemption for sales tax on a used truck too - MO is one. You fill out a form and include the DOT # of your own, or carrier you’re leased to, and off you go.

Not leasing on yet. Need more than just a truck to start. Gotta get equipment, too. Sticking with flatbed, so need chains, binders, straps, the whole deal.

Just might have a heck of a good deal on a good used truck that I don't want to miss, at a price point where I can afford to keep it parked while I keep my current company position for a bit longer.
