I ignored the warning light and thought I could make it to a truck stop about 3 miles away.

The farthest I've gone is 80 miles with the derate light on.

The farthest I've gone is 40 miles with the red light on. But that was my situation.

I've found that when regens take that long. Something is wrong. Mine got a new flex pipe. Regens were getting to be an every day thing. The flex pipe cured that. I've only had to do one since then and it only took 15 minutes.

Getting out to look is one thing. But next time. Find a safer place. Away from traffic.

We had a lady killed because she ran into a trailer. This guy was parked on a freeway on ramp. With a 10 foot wide shoulder. And he was in dirt. Another 5 feet from asphalt. That's 15 feet away from the lane.

Wow......you caught a bad break. Western's insurance company probably made them term you. That accident will get connected to you unfortunately. Then you said the trailer got totaled out. Cost the company big money. That always gets drivers fired.

Always put a call into safety when you're on the side of the road.

Besides being told after the accident about the DVIR needed for a parked Regen is it in any material or paperwork you were given during orientation or before the accident? It doesn't matter of you now say "I don't remember" or "I never read the paper I signed", etc. If the company has a way to prove you were informed of the DVIR/Regen requirement they have an easy justification for termination. Remember, your memory isn't important. The courts and the company only care about text, electronic, written notification of company policy. If a company has a policy you touch your nose before turning left and you turn left without touching your nose and the company has proof of notification of the rule and evidence you violated the rule they can fire you whether you remember reading/hearing the rule or anyone's opinion about the rule.

The good news is you aren't injured, you didn't cause the accident. You'll be able to get another job, but I would look for a non-driving job while you look. Adding a long period of unemployment to getting fired isn't going to help anything. Some money is better than no money. Plus keeping busy is probably going to help your mind while you look for a driving job. Don't feel hopeless. It's not hopeless.

Next time go to a Safe location to inspect truck. Shoulder is for broke down. Regen isn’t broke down, I’d have moved it somewhere else. Actually not stilled on shoulder unless engine died and no choice..

“What if???” No excuses. I had a pickup in middle of KC on 435 hit a bump on bridge and throw something out of the bed after he cut in front of me. It hit the road and shattered into pieces. I ran over one with a steer tire because I couldn’t move due to cars both sides, Do you One slam on brakes and go check immediately in heavy traffic? Or B go to a Safe location parked? I chose B and went to a truck stop.

Use your own common sense and judgment…

Company's insurance carrier may not allow them to keep you. Obviously you won't do this again, but the carrier and the company cannot risk you might be involved in a similar incident. You didn't plan to have this crash so you can't really promise to not have the next crash.

Maybe hauling equipment for construction companies might be an option. Dump truck work is something I see people do after a DUI or some serious ticket. Maybe that's possible. Food service (Sysco, for example) always needs drivers because it's hard physcial work and driving. "Garbage" truck companies are almost always hiring.

I have some other ideas in case Driver Pulse TenStreet doesn't work out.
    `
Try to apply in person if you can. Let the companies get a good look at you. Too easy to draw false conclusions on just an online app.
Submit the apps anyway if you can't get around to all of them in person. Also, can submit the online apps. then go in person and say, "I'm checking on my driving job application." I'd do that the same day or next day.
