If you disclose you're using the inhaler on your DOT physical shouldn't that give him a pass? Probably not. Regardless he definitely shouldn't hit it within an hour or so of any random. There's some chewing gums that will show up as alcohol on a breathalyzer.
Fired for failing breathalyzer from Inhaler?

Well, "years ago", being dependent on an inhaler was a disqualifying issue, and just having one on a truck could get you fired all by itself.201 Thanks this.

First I've ever heard of an inhaler causing someone to fail. But, nothing surprises me anymore so...

Btw, Big Maude wants to know where she can get a six pack of those inhalers?Wargames, FullMetalJacket, wulfman75 and 5 others Thank this.

That's true, there are many things today that were never tolerated years ago. Somehow we made it. I mean no disrespect, but like all these "woe is me" threads, I think there's more to this story. hope not dumb twucker, REO6205 and Speedy356 Thank this. hope not dumb twucker, REO6205 and Speedy356 Thank this.

I believe it. I don't think he'd post here if he was guilty. Concorde and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

Anytime I have ever taken a drug/alcohol test and one of the prescriptions I was taking for pain or whatever, when it showed up on a drug test they had to contact me before they contact your employer.
I had to tell them what I was taking and give them my prescription info and there was never a problem.hope not dumb twucker and 201 Thank this.

Unfortunately, the Drug Testing protocols are different than alcohol testing. If you think about it, there is no real interpretation required when you blow any levels of alcohol. The carrier directly handles this. Personally, I am with @201 on this. More to the story!

Mouthwash with alcohol will show a positive.
-

Who in their right mind is going to use mouthwash between getting told to go take a breathalyzer and actually taking the test? Even if it's a random given as soon as the driver steps on the yard, odds are it's more than the 10 minute threshold. The inhaler I could buy, but that 10 minute threshold still makes a hard road to hoe. I'd be more likely to believe equipment failure or in certain extreme circumstances, the ambient air. I know if I failed a random breathalyzer I'd be asking for an immediate blood draw.bryan21384, hope not dumb twucker, JB7 and 2 others Thank this.

I hear ya', and an element of frustration. You'd think common sense would dictate to refrain from anything that might cause a positive, but people are generally ignorant, and don't think it can happen to them. You and I have been here long enough, and can draw a conclusion, of sorts. The "inhaler" part usually masks a much bigger problem they don't want to disclose.Speedy356, bryan21384 and gentleroger Thank this.
