Or somebody's "Back-haul" is someone else's Outbound......
"Back-Haul" was a term coined by some Broker to convince a Bottom-Feeder to accept a lower rate to get back home........And it caught on.....Who is to blame?
The Bottom-Feeders for buying the line the Brokers fed them or...The Brokers who fed the Bottom-Feeders?
Flatbed rates i was quoted today

Double , triple , quad-triple brokered loads aren't a problem if you get paid the rate you want.
A problem I encounter is that an account that may have been running fine for years comes up for renewal and the brokers go out undercutting each other in an effort to secure the work.
They then turn to the truckers and want them to absorb the cuts they made in order to undercut their opposition.
I know some truckers out of desperation just agree because half a loaf is better then none they rationalize.
This just legitimizes the practice in the eyes of the broker as they often really don't know what the costs should be.
It does eventually catch up with the truckers running to cheap when they go out of business or wise up , but alas there are always more waiting in the wings willing to subsidize the account for a while longer.whoopNride, Foxcover and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
I love to see a "Back Haul" described and dissected. Even if some folks just don't get it!

All I have to say is I don't get it why the ###### drivers owner operators are taking cheap loads at all I get it you have to make money somehow but for Christ sakes stop taken them and the rates will go up give the brokers a word or two when you talk to them i hate getting insulted on the phone with a cheap rate and usually just laugh and hang up.
Please lets help each other out and find a way to raise these rates the fuel went up but the rates just keep getting lower it used to be 2.50 to 2.80 to go down to laredo from atl or chicago now its like a 1.70 what the hell is going on. -
A lot of guys will tell you they have big payments and need to keep rolling to have money coming in. They are choosing to go broke slowly over quickly.

Its amazing how money times this year I heard someone at the truck stop haul oversize crap for less then 2.00 a mile

Just picked up a $2/mile van load from NJ to MN. Going to be some night driving involved to get it there on time

Called on a load from Davenport, FL to Madill, OK today and liked to have choked on the rate. The broker quoted me at $1.25 per mile ($1475), 1180 miles, picking up Friday and Delivering Monday. I said I would haul it for $2 per mile. She said she was shipping these loads all day at the given price. How, I don't understand. My break even point is $1.25 per mile. But if I took this load, I would lose $285. Are truckers taking these loads just because? I can't see anyone making a profit on such a low rate unless they are figuring diesel fuel only.
I'll go home and sit the weekend to see what is moving on Monday.SheepDog Thanks this. -
Auction crap right. One of agents bid on some lds. going into Ma. Pa. and Ont.
They called me Tues. seeing I'm headed that way. Before they could even start I told them the lds. were too cheap.
Well how about Pa. Nope still to cheap.
Click. Bouncing out and lding. in Nc. Fri. will be a long day Thurs.SHC Thanks this. -
When this load delivers on Friday, it will be our third for the seven day period. 3500 miles and $8300 gross revenue to the truck. Make no mistake, a lot of time and effort went into finding and booking those three loads.SheepDog Thanks this.
