If FMCSA would take drivers suggestions instead of just listening to them like they're doing a great service there would be common since laws.

Our fleet will "start" the Drive Start timer immediately at 3 MPH, HOWEVER it won't commit this until you breach certain secondary threshold like distance, speed, or time, before changing to another status or turning off the engine. These actions will cancel out the Drive Start pre-timer and no drive time is logged, and you're back to status where you were or what you changed to.
So, it's like a pre-timer is initiated, and once it determines the drive time is for real, then it will back-date to when your wheels started rolling. Does that make sense?
I don't expect this behavior to change. But if it does, I'll be out the door. Many people have not figured out to "work" their systems and listen to "folk tales" and take them as gospel and never bother to look for "work-arounds"Last edited: Jul 15, 2017

Ok I will pee on some of the shoes of those complaining but out of all the trucks and drivers I've got on the road, they had some little issues with elds but on a whole most of what we have found when moving to elds is the problem with the attitude of the driver, once they learn how to adjust their attitude and realized this is just another form of logging , things worked.
We have, meaning me, my manager and the drivers pushed back against the companies and customers to prevent any pressure from them to get these loads there then to sit and wait. But until there is a lot of pushback, and having people act as slaves and not drivers, then we won't solve these little issues.
The same with these ideas to force the shippers to have a place for us or something like that, that's unrealistic and same with adjusting the hos to conform to our needs. -
Ok, I saw someone suggest rescheduling a pickup/delivery if you have less than 4-5 hours left. So tell me, how exactly are ELDs supposed to make the driver more money if they have to wait until the next day to load/unload? What if it happens 2-3 times a week? Thats an awful lot of sitting for company drivers that get paid by the mile. Who cares if you gain 7.5 minutes peeing when you lose a whole day right after that?

If he would have just stayed put for 3 hours he could have done a split and it would have fixed everything. Most company will let ya stay as long as you tell them.

For those of us who have been ECM connected ELD right now, we will be able to continue to cheat our time by moving slow around customers and on public streets til Dec 18 2019. For those of you getting your ELD ready right now, you will be subjected to the 2019 rule right now, which means as soon as the wheels roll it records Drive time no matter what. This is the result of the big push by the megas advocating ELD because they have a built in profit cheat over everyone else for 2 years.

His buddy didn't blow the 11, he blew the 14. Even on paper, that's something you want to avoid, because it's difficult to hide. Everything you're griping about, guys like his buddy caused. Even if you're going to be an outlaw, you still have to bring that A Game. -
Yes. I agree. For most or many shippers and receivers, having a place for trucks to wait out breaks simply isn't possible or practical due to the property setup and/or theft or terrorisim concerns.
However, Walmart is a HUGE abuser of HOS time, and they typically have lots of property to allow up to 20 trucks to complete a break. Hell, I'd even pay to park in a fenced area (so I did not steal stuff from their trailers) to complete a break. But will they ever do this? Doubtful because they think they're God Almighty, and carriers should lick their boots.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Cant say my answer would be the same if I was running regional or OTR -
