I've been looking at a 2012 Freightliner, also with a Cummins. This unit has been a Penske maintained unit with 630k miles also with an APU unit installed. Im not a big fan of Freightliners because of there cab noise, but $28K seem like a good deal. What do you guys think ?

Currently I'm looking at the same specs except its a Ryder. Most likely with it having an APU it probably doesn't have a long idle time like most rental trucks do, and I agree with you 100 percent Freightliner is not my cup of tea. Just have a really good look and get a dyno done on it. With it being Penske it might be decent.

I've delt a lot with rental trucks from Penske and Ryder.. I would say run away.. Every time i've got a rented truck them there was always problems. Drinking oil Drinking coolant or engine lights on.. The power in them sucked..

Yea for sure, by the way be cautious with Ryder units. There service isn't the best I heard people haveing issues with there units within the first couple of days due to the lack of service they put in there trucks. They have good prices but after poking around I figured out why. Best of luckCw5110 Thanks this.

Can you rent the truck for a month or two. That would give you the feel of the truck.
Most articles I 've read . The most troubled trucks are the 2010 thru 2013.
Good luck.sirgi Thanks this. -
I would never buy an ex-rental truck.
They get too much abuse.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Renting it would be a good idea. Problem with that is the monthly rental would come out around $5k so in a two months rent I would be able to pay off almost half of the sale price.

I'll do that. I've heard good and bad about Ryder trucks. I'm not so sure whats true and whats not I think they are decent trucks. One of my friends told me Ryder has a better maintenance plan then Penske and when I heard that that defiantly raised my eyebrow I thought it was the other way around.

Possibly, I guess it all comes down to the employees doing there job right

I wanna rent one just to see how long I can hold it on the rug while speed shifting
