You know, the more I think about it the more I think he needs to consider if he wants to continue with this company. I mean they've basically asked him to run illegal while at the same time showing a disregard for an employee's health and does he really want to stay somewhere like that. At the very least he needs to "fire" his dm and get another imo. A good dm should look out for his drivers too

He is well controlled with the meds that he is on.. He has been controlled for a very long time.. I had him look again at his meds.. he has until the 16th so shouldn't be a problem... me jumping to conclusions too fast.. I forgot that he had a stash in his bag of a full week of meds. ..
They have someone that is coming to get the load at the truck stop about 10 miles from our house. So he will be able to come home go to the doc and spend some time with his worry wart of a wife and his kids... I do enough worrying for about 100 people.. LOL
He likes the company .. good miles.. and great pay... The insurance is great and affordable..
He isn't going anywhere... Like he was telling me earlier.. We have no idea what happens behind the scenes. They do their best to get drivers home with the loads that they have available. Plus like I said on previous post, There has not been any issues with home time that I have seen..
He can't quit and I won't let him with the pay that he is making. I have been off work since November due to downsizing at my company.. so we need good miles, pay and good insurance..
Be safe everyone!Last edited: Jul 9, 2013

We have no idea what happens behind the scenes, that is so true REGARDLESS of where a person works.

Seems like it was just a case of them having to get the freight off the customers hands asap.
-
They are like any company they will move freight the best they can first and foremost, they will take care of you as a driver the best they can. No freight no job so you have to take a hit every once in awhile(medical is different that's safety). I am glad to be here be safe and keep at it!!

I think I would like it at Freymiller. I was not planning on going back OTR, but it actually seems like it may be a good fit. I say that because I think I have the same attitude as float. I understand its a job that you have to be extremely flexible. If your willing to get home ABOUT a certain day, miss a holiday hear and there, and understand some weeks are up, some are down, you do alright. Fighting with a DM because the freight does not take you back on the exact date you intended is not the end of the world. I am single and ex-navy, so I am use to being away. That never bothered me. It sounds like as long as your willing to be flexible and work with them, they will work with you. That is at least what I am understanding. Looks like West freight is there too. I love Left Coast runs! (Just not left coast politics
) My largest concern is if I want to go solo, or bring in a team. If the miles are there more time then not, I would rather solo anyday. If its really slow and short runs for solos, I have a possible team to bring to the table.

Freymiller is a great company. Good miles ..great insurance. I am sure that you would like it if you came aboard. I only had this past hiccup ... I haven't had any other issues. I usually don't care when I come in
.. as long as it is somewhere close to the day I request. And there hasn't really been an issue as far as I could tell about hometime in this thread. Which is great! Best of luck to you! Be safe! -
Then they should plan ahead and make sure that they have enough trucks available for the loads that they acquire. Not expect a driver who is out of hours or on their way home to save their ### because they screwed up.
The planners job is to move freight and keep trucks utilized. That's it. It is the dm's responsibility to act as a drivers liaison to the planners in order to make sure that a drivers needs are being met (be it miles, home time, etc.) A good dm will put his drivers well being first and foremost and act as a barrier so that his drivers do not get taken advantage of by planners who could care less about them. A bad or inexperienced dm does not stand up to the planners and just lets them run over his drivers. If Freymiller is biting off more than they can chew, perhaps somebody should tell customer service to stop grabbing loads that can't possibly be ran on time. Like I said above, it is not the drivers responsibility to save a companies ### time and again because of poor planning.
Anyhoo...
I gave Freymiller my 2 week notice today. I have found a semi-local gig hauling construction equipment. Without embellishment or emotion, I will try and explain why I came to this decision so that others may see.
Ever since my old dm left more than a month ago, things have gone down hill. Now maybe this is just a coincidence, but an interesting coincidence nonetheless. This is primarily evident in the sheer amount of repowers being done across the board. Repowers that make no sense whatsoever. I have been repowered off of loads that I could have made on time. In several instances, I could have arrived earlier or at the same time as the other driver. I have also repowered several loads like this. This in itself is a good sign of the times here. There is nothing wrong with a repower here and there, but when 95% of the loads are being repowered (especially for no reason,) that shows a lack of planning.
Things really went South for me when my asked me to drive illegally. Without rehashing the entire story, I drove all day, delivered a load, and was out of hours. I was forced to pick up another load even though my dm knew that I was out of hours and could not possibly make the delivery on time (see bad dm reference above.) I called safety and got them involved. They transferred me to the dm supervisor who told me that I "must have heard him (my dm) wrong" and that nobody ever asked me to drive illegally...even though my dm's exact words were "Drive until you have about 2 minutes left on your clock and then switch over to off duty driving line for the rest of the way." Needless to say that, despite my protests AND my better judgement, I drove illegally (see take a hit every once in awhile.) Strike 1
Last week, I was supposed to be home on July 3rd. Just like any other time, I put in my time off request 2 days after a came back out. I also call my dm several times throughout that period to remind him of when I need to be home. I do this because, usually, my home time is filled to the brim with appointments and other time sensitive things that are rather a pain in the ### to reschedule. I also schedule my time off date to be 2 days early as to allow the company a little leeway in getting me home. I understand that #### happens and that they aren't miracle workers, but what happened last week was ridiculous. I went and picked up that load in DeLand last week and brought it home. I babysat it for 2 days until Freymiller got another driver to come get it (See take a hit every once in awhile.) My wife was livid...and she had every right to be. She has not seen her husband in 5 weeks, and during the 4 measly days that gets to spend with me, I'm busy babysitting a load and doing a repower and...working!! Strike 2
I left home a day late yesterday because I had to have a root canal. I was called by my dm the day before and was told that I had a load that picked up between 1pm-8pm on Wed and delivered in NY on Fri. OK...no problem. I planned with my wife to drop her off at work (she is a surgical assistant,) and when she was finished, she would take me to my truck and I would leave. At 7am, I was awoken by my dm calling me to tell me that I had to go pick that load up asap because it was supposed to be picked up Tuesday. I told him that I would see what I could do, but that my wife was in surgery and couldn't be reached until she was finished. He proceeded to call me every hour and even suggested that I drop the car off at the hospital and take a cab to my truck (without saying goodbye to my wife who I would not see for several weeks.) I was finally able to get ahold of my wife and I got to my truck at 130 (see take a hit every once in awhile.) I arrived at the shipper at 3pm only to find out that they were pissed off at me because Freymiller told them that I would be there at 1900 on Tuesday! They made sure that I was the last truck that they loaded yesterday. It was a good thing that I didn't just get a cab to my truck. Strike 3
So here I am sitting in VA on another load that is due in DE tomorrow afternoon. I repowered that "hot load" going to NY with another truck this afternoon in S.C. The other truck wouldn't start, and the last thing I heard was that load is still in S.C...lol (see repowers that make no sense.)
I know a well as anybody else that a driver needs to be flexible in this job, but Freymiller has expected not only me, but my family as well to bend over backwards to cover their errors in planning. The problem is not that they expect this, but at the frequency at which they are expecting it. It has become almost a continuous expectation that something is going to go wrong on a load.
If you guys want to believe that I am just being a #####y little schoolgirl, then fine. But I would encourage you to go back through the past 30 pages and read all of the positive things I have written about Freymiller over the past 11 months. I, more than anybody else on this forum, have encouraged people to sign on at Freymiller. Now that I have seen some very large problems though and have decided to share them with others so that they may be able to make an informed decision, I am brushed aside as somebody who just doesn't get it or who is unwilling to "take one for the team."Robert1981, Jarhed1964 and Dinomite Thank this. -
I live in Kansas and get home consistently I am glad I don't live in Florida because freight there is a problem, glad you found something local. Keep on doing what you all are doing and be safe.
flightwatch Thanks this. -
And it seems to be this way with every company. That's why I have never understood why companies hire drivers that live in Florida knowing full well that there are going to be home time issues. I will say, however, that Freymiller has never had issues getting me home.
