Or.... they are just driving normal and the hills just happen to slow them down.

Never really understood this concept of "making up for lost time" except when you run into a friend you haven't seen in years.

    Thanks for the replies.

I was told that the purpose of leap frogging is to speed over long distances, using the power of numbers and the passing lane as a weapon. By law you can go 10mph over the speed limit to pass someone. So if say 15 truckers are in a row and all constantly leap frogging each other nobody is really going the speed limit and nobody is technically breaking the law.

It should be noted that the person who told me this has been wrong about 75% of everything that has come out of his mouth. So i thought i would verify with you folks.

Whoever told you that you can go over the speed limit to pass is full of crap. They are either f'n with you, or setting you up to get a very bad driving record.

Wow thank you everyone. And thank God he told me this two days ago and not 2 months when i started. #### I'm gullible lol.

He is home right now with a broken ankle. My boss is setting me up with a new teammate. This is two teammates/trainers in a row who tried to push me to speed and destroy my record.

I am putting my foot down on the third guy. One of the first things out of my mouth to the next guy is going to be "i dont speed. Dont push me to speed and if you have a problem with it then you can drive on my hours and like it."

I'm pissed. Boss wants to put me back with that guy when his ankle heals. Ain't happening.

He is not messing with me. This guy does this. I have seen him go 90 on numerous occasions. Our truck is governed at 73 but on downhills he push 90 every time.

That may be, but he is 100% wrong. There is no such law anywhere in North America that allows you to speed to pass. Same thing with speeding on the downhill. Does he and large numbers of others get away with it most of the time? Sure, but they're still in the wrong and candidates for a ticket... especially when they get pulled over by a LEO who found out that morning their spouse has been cheating on them with a trucker. or the county is a little shy on revenue and they need to make up the shortfall.

In Wyoming we actually have a law that allows 10 mph over in order to pass a vehicle traveling slower than the speed limit. It does not apply to passing a vehicle running the speed limit nor does it allow commercial trucks to use it.

So is that up to 10 over the posted limit in order to pass? If so, I stand corrected... partly. ;) In practise, yes, it's often "necessary" to speed in order to effect a pass safely. I do it, I just try and make sure there's no LEOs about when I do. ;)
