When I said "good communication," I was not talking about yelling. As I said in the post, "you have to be careful about this" which should make it clear that I'm not for yelling. Even in emergencies it could cause the driver to react the wrong way.

Let me talk a little about my trainer.
I kind of joked around with him last saturday about the amount of yelling he had to do with the student I have been reffering to that is a little lax in his efforts to learn or comprehend listening. My trainer said sometime you gotta yell it get there attention, then you explain what was done wrong or needs to be done right. Then he told me a story related to this topic.
He was a pee wee football coach about 6 or 7 years ago. He was talking to another coach about his players. The other coach told him to watch out for the mother of this one boy on his team, she apperantly liked to tear into coaches. He simply responded oh well I can't change what i am so if she does not like the way I do things she can take him off the team.
The next game they had they were running a siple play and the boy whos mother was a "beast" screwed up. He yelled at him from across the field(He has a very booming voice that can be heard a very long distance away while in a running truck) and walked out to explain what he needs to do. After they ran the second play he yelled out to the boy good job thats the way to do it.
Not a second or two after that Quote: "I felt the her breathing down the back of my neck like she was a raging bull" and in her deep voice and harry chin said "Ray I like you, you yell at my boy like I do, all these other ##### coaches don't know how to teach him.
So I guess the moral of his story is it is sometimes good to yell to get someones attention but you need to then explain how to do the thing the right way and if doen properly the second time make sure you give praise for it even if it is only a simple that better or good job.
Good luck drivers. -

One thing my on the road trainer did was to pretend he was asleep in the sleeper berth. I'd be driving along there and all of the sudden the curtains would swing open. I got used to it after the first couple of times.

I finished school on Thursday May 17th Tested Friday May 18th passed with flying colors missed 4 on pretrip we only are required to do certian parts of the pre trip got to do door drivers door to rear called test # 2 had to also do coupleing system on tractor and tralier and in cab stupidly missed the light buzzer but did mention the pop out part and forgot to mention the outside of the wheel.
missed the pull up and stop, saved all the rest of my points for the parrellel pushed nose of trailer over the cones but that was all. The tester said well do you want to fix it you have one free look on the test I said nope why be perfect and possibly fail for loosing too many points.
road test missed a couple of minor things plus had a couple of ##* holes pulled all the way up to the stop sign of course all the way left to the line I told the tester watch this missed them by a 1-3 feet swifts name helped me on that they were tight left turns too no double turn lanes good thing I had the same thing happen to me durring the behind the wheel part of school.
tester said the on the road was good not to worry just minor things oh yea I missed one sign for the school bus stop ahead he made sure I was watching my mirrors before he asked that one. The first sign was left lane ends 500 ft.
climbed a mountain on thursday to use jake brake, and regular brake to decend the grade Instructor told me that wow you are the first student that if we were driving otr and you had your license I would have no problem going in the bunk to sleep.
The instructor told me you had someone teach to to drive a truck allready I told him nope just use to drive a dually pulling trailers alot.
The only bad thing that day was the p.o.s penske truck kept choughing and loosing power so I had to keep downshifting the instructor said floor it I told him it is already there he called the director of the school and we went to the closest place to exchange the truck. But we made it part of the way up I got the jist if the decending.
I had other truckers flying by me the speed limit was 55 but for trucks it was 35 I was going only doing the max 35. Go down slow and you come out alive go down fast and well you may not need a grave you just might dig your own with the run away truck. -

I need to interveiw the companies that have sent me pre hires to see what they have to offer as in miles and pay I will not be telling them how much I want only will ask what the adverage new driver gets as well as the other drivers. We all know the cpm does not mean squat if the miles arent there. who would be a good one to start with I have may, cre, arrow, davis, watkins shepherd, that is all I know about right now may have others but not sure.
I also do not wat to drive a p.o.s but I do understand will not get brand new to start out with. the only bad thing I know about with watkins shepherd is they have 10 day training /orentation and it is unpaid. they pay travel and motel only. any help would be appreciated in helping me choose a good company since you know alot more on or about all of them. -
way to go...glad you finally got it done
w&s isnt to bad,i do hear that they are in compition with swift for totaled trucks so far this year, i helped dig mr contz's(sp) basement a few years ago an he gave me an open job offer, but i dont like thier fleet trucks, and a buddy of mine had problems with a dispatcher years ago...but hey...whats new huh
as for davis, i like em,wether you do or not is up to you, i do know newbies get $.30 a mile after training, training is still paid at $350/wk (2 to 6 weeks...depends on your ability)i believe
talk to daina not pat, pat is kinda skatter brained at times
but like anywhere else there are bad things, #1 in my mind is they pay by HHG miles. not the nicest or higest powered co. trucks but they'll do at least 67.
the others ive never had any personal dealings with so.....
yeah i know...shaddup driver
see ya on the highway -
pat told me .28 cpm and would be in training would be 6 wks
