I don't know if it was on this forum or another one but someone posted the actual bill for his first year, $44k.

    I can't see that ever.

I can't imagine the agony of trying to book decent van freight off loadboards in current market conditions. Having a paid for truck just means you'll be running to cover costs making nothing while other guys with payments are actually going in the hole quickly doing the same thing. Just takes longer to bleed out that way is all.

DEF engines have too many problems for the average O/O. A buddy of mine was smart and paid for an additional warranty on his trucks DEF system. Then last year it went down in NJ cost 15K and a week of down time to straighten it out. We are talking about an O.C.D about EVERYTHING type person who does meticulous maintenance. He gets over 7 MPG all the time some times a little bit more. He ran the numbers and decided that it would be more economical to run his truck with a Cat engine than to keep running the truck with the DEF. Some O/O look at this differently that a company driver who doesn't have to pay for the repairs and additional expenses of being down.

The gearing your truck has, and the way you use your foot is going to have as much impact on fuel economy as what engine is under the hood. Get a pre emission one. You can thank me later

Looking into either own authority or lease on with a small company. Prefer to run S.E. Any recommendation if I decide to go this route?
