Ok so how about back to the OP.

Your looking to enter a job that is full of prospective new drivers. Have you any expirience backing any kind of vehicle with a trailer or any thing larger than a pick up truck? Are you somewhat mechanically inclined? It is not "travel around the country" as some would put it. How well do you adapt to irregular sleep patterns? Can you read a map?

Should you choose this field and pursue it you are going to find it to be a challange. There will be sitting at docks waiting to get loaded/unloaded for hours talking to people that could care less about your hos. Loads that need to keep rolling and the only stops you will see if for fuel and to change drivers. You will need to have somewhat of an idea how the truck works so when a breakdown occurs you can give a good description of the problems, this will help in the time it takes to repair. Sleeping in a moving truck. Oh you might think I can sleep in a car. Not the same. Trying to find shippers and recievers. Most of your sight seeing will be done from roads that will accomadate trucks. You will get a chance to clean up and sit down to a meal when time allows. Sometimes that could be a couple of days.

Lastly it doesn't matter what your preferences are. I have mine you have yours, (for you that are wondering they are not the same) You have to be able to do the job. Even in this day and age you would will be best off not to lead with "were gay" cause someone will take to the boots to ya. :biggrin_25512:
It is not an easy job and will prove what you are made of. Good luck:biggrin_25519:

Frankly guys, you ain't gonna make it in this industry. Why? Because you identify yourselves by your sexual preferences. What do I mean by that? Well look at it, you come in basically looking for a job that will cater to your lifestyle. Trucking ain't like that. Do you see heterosexuals coming on asking about jobs that will 'let them get laid every night"? No, because trucking is what you do with your clothes on. Nobody really gives a flying ---- how you get your jollies as long as you don't get stupid about it. If you want to be a cruscader or activist go elsewhere, this ain't downtown San Fran and never will be. That's just a fact whether you like it or not.

If you must stay in, just tell the HR person "My friend and I would like to team together" and let it go at that. Then just go about your life in peace. Get "in your face" with this crowd and you will get your face re-adjusted..... or at best be totally ostracised.

    Be smart for a change.

It's really funny as I got hit twice in this post! I gave the same advice as quite a few did! Where do you think I came off with a God complex?
    Now for the second ...
Homophobic propaganda followed by a bible verse.
    How Christian of you.

Another one who didn't get it! Where do I show homophobic reactions? I gave good solid advice period! I even posted the link to the other "gay" post later in this thread! Man what a Homophobic I am! ROFLMAO!

I have gay friends as well as redneck, a large racial diversity of friends and even handicapped friends as well as a handicapped son so I know a tad bit more about this "discrimination" that's been kicked around in here than most of you!

Go back and actually READ my post #4. I will tell you that the oldest gay friend I know I've known since about 5th grade but he outed himself when he graduated high school. What I like about this guy and think is funny as hello about him is he really hates "openly gay" men and thinks the gay pride stuff is pure BS! But that's his opinion and mine as well as others. I and a few others put it to you bluntly, don't ask don't tell, or keep it to yourself while at a truck stop for your own safety or the safety of the equipment you drive. Again, this is solid advice! If I didn't care or give a crapola I would never replied to this thread!

If I was Homophobic do you actually think I would have offered you this advice? Really, think on that for a few minutes! I didn't call you names or derogatory comments (which would have gotten me banned from a forum I really like which almost happened a couple of weeks ago when I blasted the owner and safety director of a company and actually called them out to "debate" the issue with me while I was in the hospital.

As I said and will state again, this industry still has a lot of drivers that ARE as you call them Homophobic and would NOT hesitate to "do something" if you do openly advertise your preferences in their area where it can get dark and they can take advantage of either you or your equipment! Once you get on with a company and you pull into a truck stop some evening turn on that CB and listen to the Good Buddies (ok my first derogatory comment but it's the CB term since I don't remember when it used to be a GOOD thing to be a Good Buddy but got turned into what it means today!) and how they get their lives threatened and I know Nana has heard the same thing!

I actually don't care for the "gay" thing. I do enjoy my old friends company when I go to my sister's house for a visit and even a few of his friends but there are some I have no use for but that doesn't make me "Homophobic" or a basher. As noted earlier by some, don't go swishing across the parking lot or advertise your preference as some do. I'm concerned more for everyone's safety than you thinking me closed-minded, Homophobic, a basher or as #101 added "Homophobic propoganda followed by a bible verse. How Christian are you?" Well go read that book and then go back in this thread and find that verse that tells Gods feeling on being Gay! That puts your silly comment down the toilet as even as a Christian and I SHOULD follow the scriptures I would NOT give you this advice and would be condemning you to where ever!

Those who have followed me in here knows I ONLY give good and HONEST advice. I think my couple of years of experience and living life at truck stops longer than most of you ever will see will figure out that some things aren't taken for granted and just because you think that it's your "right" to do certain things and it might be it's still the option of the less inspired out there who you need to worry about!

Again I'll say this: Don't ask don't tell or keep it next to your vest. What the less inspired know the better this advice can be for you and others. And that's good, solid, HONEST, safe advice. What you decide to do with it is your move as advice is given freely but again I'm such a Homophobic I keep giving you my honest opinions!

    Good luck

And that's MY opinion. It's a stupid lifestyle and can be offensive to people you really don't want to meet on the dark side of a truck stop to both you and your equipment!

You believe incorrrectly that they are because they chose that "stupid lifestyle" as you put it and then you tell us how many gay, retarded, redneck, two headed, black, asian, mexican friends you have to prove how wonderful you really are.

Girls don't let these redneck scaredy cats run you out of your goal. You will do fine in trucking if you treat it like a job. I understand your wanting to find a gay friendly and I understand that it has nothing to do with your looking for new mates. You are married or committed to each other just like any other couple. What most of these gutter brains can't fathom is: you want a gay friendly company to limit the amount of racism you face. Unfortunately there aren't enough open minded truck drivers for you to get a fair shake on this forum. Good luck, some of us have your back!

I don't expect a company to be accommodating to my sex life. I expect a company to be accommodating in these areas:
    1) Accepting that I want my company-provided life insurance policy to be paid to my partner of 18 years if anything happens to me.

Should not be a problem if you can find a company that offers employer paid life insurance. They don't underwrite the policy and won't care who your beneficiary is.

    2) Accepting that she is also my emergency contact person.

This shouldn't be a probelm either, but they might request a secondary contact if you two are trucking together. If you are in an accident there is a chance you both might be injured.

    3) Understanding that while our daughter is technically my kid, my partner and I have raised that girl together for 18 years and we would both need emergency family leave if something dreadful happened -- my partner may not be the biological mom but she will be right there beside me if the kid needs us.

That might be a problem depending on the company.

    4) Giving us the same perks that they give any other husband/wife team since they use us in the same manner

    Perks such as?
