Gear oil for trailer hubs

    Gear oil is what I've used. 80/90 weight.
    More important is make sure seals are not leaking.
    DOT will shut you down.

    Although Peterbilt does not make trailers, My Peterbilt specifies Mobil synthetic SHC50 for non-driven hubs. Makes me wonder since trailer hubs are non-driven.

    A wheel end is a wheel end, at least oil bath anyhow. They all contain the same bearing type.....driven or non. 80/90,85/140, 75/90 will do just fine whatever your preference. I do think the synthetic 75w90 will offer lower resistance in colder climate and longer overall bearing life in extreme conditions compared to conventional oil. I do know Pete says 50 on steers. Never made sense to me why?
