i was an instructor for 6 yrs.
know that all schools have, but 1 reason to exist. YOUR MONEY
know that instructors can not fail a student that has no business being in a truck. it rarely happens, they just let you re-test till u get it. if the instructor could fail you, the school would have to repay you. you will pass where ever you go. if you are a lousey driver after your training, and got passed, understand, if your instructor asks things like, why are you here, you should maybe pursue another career.
when the instructors ask the brass of the schools how can they let so many non clutching students on the road. guess why. they are going to keep your money, and there reasoning is you the student will be placed with a trainer where you go. so before that trainer gets torn up by your remarks, do you think maybe you do not belong behind the wheel. just a cdl does not make a driver. driving a truck isnt about money and the life on the road first. it is about survival on the road where one mistake will get you and maybe someones family. i taught many good students and many i wished would never get in a truck. first it is about maturity, willingness, ability, and the paying of your dues in trucking. any one can drive a truck if not there wouldnt be thousands, some r just pros its in your blood or its not.
this is not about discourageing any one, it is about all this school crap is about govt. regs. half the stuff in the cdl manual will get u killed. run a tanker off the road onto the shoulder like it says, no thanks, i will stay on level ground if at all possible. if u want to be a trucker, do some real soul searching you will love it or hate it. remember the company that you work for will own u until u figure the trucking game out good luck

Great post thank you!
Could you tell me all the ways to get a CDL jpaid for by the state?
I know of only two? Forst WIA, that is drying up in Indian. Second is good-will.
Good will paying for truck driving? That sounds like about the level that the Bottom feder companys look for? HA Ha -

Sorry, I couldnt make out most of what he was saying anyway.
The two I did understand....schools are in it to make money and they give you your money back if you fail so thats why they wont fail you.
1) If youre talking privately owned schools.....yes, they are in it to make money. Holy jumping Jesus lizards!!! You mean a privately owned company wants to make a profit?!?! Oh the humanity of it all.
That doesnt mean they cant provide quality training at the same time.
2) Schools have to give you your money back if you fail???
What school is that? Ive never heard of that before. -
I just got out and have a unique perspective. I had my CDL for over twenty years. I am also a certified teacher. I think that blaming the schools for poor students is a bit short sighted. Yes there are many students that have little business behind the wheel of a truck. Heck there are many people who have no business driving a car! However the problems are not the people looking for work, well not directly, but instead the economy driving people into positions that don't fit simply to survive. This poor economy coupled with our reluctance to ever screen applicants due to the fears of discrimination produce a mass of mis-guided persons lined up to train at our driving schools.
I do realize that I have recieved .98 change from this buck! -
It is not always the student's fault if they are not learning. There are instructors and teachers out there who are not at all good at instructing and teaching. I just finished a truck driving school. It is in competition with 3 other schools in the area. We were getting students who left the other schools, because in the others the instructors just screamed at them, and only gave you 4 hours total time in a truck. So then those students failed the DMV test, and when they went back and wanted more instruction from the school, they were told they had to pay the tuition again, double. But the school I went to, you can take as long as you need before you feel comfortable taking the DMV test, and you can get as many in-truck hours as you want.

hello,
1 anyone with a cdl can instruct you, if they are willing. read your manual, get a learners permit and you can drive with any cdl qualified driver. before spending 6000 maybe with twitter and all that a few of you should get together buy a truck ask, hire, proposition, her him to train you. as stated he needs nothing but a cdl..... pass your skills, driveing, skills, get your cdl, form a llc corp. get your own rights hire some drivers and have at it. didnt mean to p anyone off helped many a student that didnt even have money to eat. had too many watches and gifts offered for the training i gave them but couldnt and wouldnt accept. it doesnt take that much money and by the way put the llc in a womans name as they get preferance on govt freight, -
