Also, you can switch between sleeper and off duty if you want to leave the truck.Airborne Thanks this. -
While in my training Ive logged 12hrs many times in the sleeper while doing team and no one at our company has said anything. -
I only mark sleeper while doing my 34 hours. Never once had DOT or my own company Safety team say it's wrong. I hang out in the back where the tv and everything is. That's the sleeper berth. When I'm on home time I kick my status to off duty with no remarks. Don't trip!

It's not against any regs to be in the Sleeper an excessive amount of time. It does raise questions though. In a heavy duty inspection is it always best to avoid questions if you want to pass.

I just log off duty and start a new page the next day. I don't really care if it's right or wrong. I'm not going to worry about the coloring book when I'm not driving. I drive safely and don't hit stuff. Seems good enough to me.

With the ELD mandate making compliance so good, violations will fall by the wayside which have been a huge moneymaker for states for decades. So officers will have to study the green book to find the little minutia to hammer drivers over. Expect more inspections involving revealing all your receipts, even for that coffee and donut you bought. Hope the date stamp doesn't coincide with you being in the Sleeper.....
For those with Sleeper trucks and only log Off Duty for their 10s thinking they are getting over, you can expect to be shut down OOS by a 'by the book' inspector who believes you may be fatigued or fined big time for 'falsification'. Remember Logbook violations fall under the Fatigued Basic under CSA, you don't want those violations I promise you. They rank right up there with poor load securement and driving drunk or drugged. -
Fold_Moiler and HotH2o Thank this.

If your body is in the Sleeper you must log Sleeper. No requirement to actually be sleeping in there. You can also log Off Duty while in the Driver's Seat in a Parked vehicle.
There's still a lot of confusion going around how to properly log these two duty statuses.
