I just recently had an engine fire on my 2011 386 with a paccar mx13 under the hood and I was wondering if I should get another MX13 or X15 performance? My fire started around the starter and I had replaced it recently along with the wires. Is the newer ones better or should I get the Cummins? I like the fact that Cummins can get worked on anywhere but at my regular shop, they were always in there. My paccar was the exception in the shop but I rarely seen them in there. Any thoughts on my initial question?

I know a guy who has a 2018(he got it in oct of 17) pete 389 with X15 cummins and 18 speed, he hasnt had any problems yet.
He does all oil changes/greasing though himself.
He says he’ll buy another one in a year or so, guess hes happy.

I want to get the Cummins because I loved the N14 I had in my 9400i back in the day but I've seen and heard horror stories of the isx15. I've also heard that, if you get the performance Cummins, you hardly have those problems. I'm glad your friend hasn't had a problem with his. Do you know if they got the extended warranty?

Yes he did, although he usually gets a new truck every 3 years, says less risk of emission troubles, and they give a better trade in

The n14 was bullet proof. One of the greatest engines ever made by any engine maker. That being said the only thing it has in common with the x15 is the cummins name plate. Now im not saying the x15 is a bad engine im just saying I wouldn't base my decision of a modem engine on mut experience with engines from the past.

Oh, I'm not judging it off of an old motor. That's why I'm asking has anyone had experience with the new ones. Those isx15's seem like they had emissions and fuel pump issues. I'm just wondering if the X15 have any of those same issues.

    Simple and reliable design.

The N14 was a great motor for me. It pulled everything I threw at it without causing problems.
