    Greetings!
I studied for a few weeks, then took my Class A tests (GN, Air brakes, Combination) and have my permit. I have to just pass the pretrip, skills and driving and I will have my license. I have no qualms about that as I drove years ago before CDL became what it is. I will be using the local Tech College truck and testing with them as they are a 3rd party tester.

I really do not want to do OTR, but would not mind regional. I'm gainfully employed and do not need an immediate trucking job. I just do not want to finish my final working years sitting at a computer. (Not how I wanted things to work out, just the way they did.)
So, what are my chances of getting someone to hire me at this age and no real experience?

Not sure where you live but at Averitt we only run roughly the eastern 32 states and home 2 days on the weekends or during the week if you want to run weekends for more miles.

Your chances are no worse than a young guy's are. There are plenty of rookie drivers in their 50s and 60s who were laid off from factory jobs and chose to go into trucking. Good luck.

Besides, you have something that many of the younger drivers seem to lack...and that is patience.
I'd say, unless your hair is blue and you can't see over the steering wheel, you should be able to find a job (I'm kidding, I live in FL and see many folks that need a booster seat to drive down here)

Make a few calls, age is fine, 2 or 3 years of delivering freight is 2 or 3 years of revenue for a company.

So many drivers jump around, most companies don't expect most drivers to stay long term, they take what the can get.

There are exceptions, and long term propositions, but for your situation, there are plenty of companies out there.

Dozens of companies will hire you.
Get all the endorsements before graduating.
Submit job applications during the first week of CDL school.
Where is your location so we know the hiring area you live in. If we know your city/state some drivers on there may have some contacts for you.

Evergreen Transport in Evergreen,AL is regional; runs Southeast and Texas.
They use a CDL school in Evergreen which they pay for if they think you need training.

I have trained several older then you. Just need confidence! My father drove from 13 to 78. Age is just a number. Best of luck.
