It does. 1. Deduction doesn't mean you get the money back. It simply means you don't pay taxes on it.
2. Even that is no longer valid as employees can't deduct work expenses.

Yeah, unless the company gives you the money back? Schneider used too, but no need paying taxes on money you’ve already paid and no longer have.
Keep business and personal separate, even cleaning supplies for truckfarmerjohn64 Thanks this. -
At least it's not Mr. Stow A. Way on the catwalk, Skell ~!
( I still miss your barcodes, haha! )
Snailexpress and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
Not if you don't get 'per diem' but...that's another thread.farmerjohn64 Thanks this.

Well,
I don’t know those, but I’d get in touch with a tax person who knows trucks.
I see no reason to have to pay for business items, as I don’t see secretaries paying for printer paper, or toner.
Tax Deductions for Truck Drivers -
Once again.......a COMPANY DRIVER no longer has the option!!! Owners ops.....yes. Tax laws changed in 2018. Personal deduction for a single taxpayer was increased from $6000.00 to $12,000 per year. Lots of deductions went away. One of the areas affected was the TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY. Company drivers are no longer allowed to deduct "Business, meal, uniform, incidental expenses on their tax forms. There is a whole set of different rules for " Transportation Industry Workers" Look it up. There is an IRS Provision for Trucking Companies to pay their drivers a "Per Diem allowance" Again.....look it up. There are different options that these Companies can use that satisfies the IRS Rules. For instance, My company offers me the option of $67.00 per day, flat rate, deducted from my CPM PAY that is paid to me without any taxes. It is STILL INCOME to me.....just not TAXABLE INCOME! I do not want to stir up the HORNETS NEST about "per diem". I am 60!years old, no dependents, no child support, no alimony, etc. My Accountant advised me to take the option. "Why would you refuse +- $20,000 of tax free income out of the $50-60 thousand per year you earn" She asked me. If I earn $55,000 annually, take the standard deduction of $12,000 + $20,000 in per diem, I am paying taxes on $23,000 per year. It works out to MY BENEFIT hugely every year. Your situation may be quite different from mine. By the time my pre tax deductions for my Medical Insurance, 401K, HSA ACCOUNT are figured into the situation, I end up paying not much more than my "payroll taxes" (SocialSecurity and Medicare) annually. Again, It works out VERY WELL for me. Seek the advise of a CPA or other qualified accountant. I am neither. Just a ####### Truck Driver that legally avoids paying virtually any Federal or State taxes.Your mileage may vary.dwells40, Truckermania, G13Tomcat and 2 others Thank this.

Simple answer is the tax laws changed starting with 2018 tax year. It doesn’t matter if your preparer “knows” trucking or not.G13Tomcat, Dockbumper and farmerjohn64 Thank this.

Duly noted. Quite spot on. HOWEVER, some of us homeowners with an H & R Block guy that retired FROM trucking. . . find (or just enjoy?) a few loopholes. Which aren't really even that.
I'm not gonna get this thread deleted, NOR moved to the 'thickskin' part of the forum. It's just not a neutrality; situations SURE DO differ.
Your post was great; very educational. Yet, not etched in stone, nor custom tailored.
Carry on, folks.
As @TripleSix would say,
Tomcat, Out.farmerjohn64 Thanks this. -
Yep, 21 young guy, appreciate the answer and I was just responding to the other answer that stated I could be reimbursed, but now I’ve been educated otherwise
-
... or not?!?!?
Carry on, son. I'm 55 and have been at this SINCE your age. Not saying I know 'more' (nor less) than the 'next' or 'previous' .... its a GREY area. Always will be.
I just got HOME at 1108... methinks I need sleep.
Keep on doing what you are doing, John. You'll get the gist of 'ALL' of this.... with time. If your driving and backing and tarping (<<okay, that needs work and more supplies, haha!) stays spot on... let these NON essentials~ FALL INTO PLACE.
Chips will fall as they may; don't put 'em (eggs) all in one basket.
I like your spunk, kiddo. I read most all of your threads. Don't be a pushover~!
And I said before (oops...)
Tomcat, Out.D.Tibbitt and farmerjohn64 Thank this.
