Give me some insight

    I have a pretty good paying job otr great miles and pay... But I recently got offered a job to drive pretty much regional. From North Carolina to pa which is a 400 mile run to where they go and he don't pay by mile but salary he said make 2 trips a week he pays 1k and make 3 the 1,500 and so on and I'm doing otr and get around 2100-2500 in nine days sometimes ten is it worth it?? I calculated that if I leave Sunday night making 3 easy trips there and back would leave me more home time I have a new born son :)

    Seems like you answered your own question. Enjoy your wife and that new baby son! You always have the option of OTR in the future.

    Seems like a no brainer based on that little bit of info.

    I remember not that long ago someone leaving a good otr job for what turned out to be a regional gig from hell. Just saying make sure you know what you're getting into.

    Just remain aware that "salaried gigs" have a tendency to develop issues at some point in the future. typically sooner rather than later. Contracts get lost, expectations tend to change while pay does not. I'd want to know what would happen if this scheduled turn fails for whatever reason. What would be their mileage pay? Any opportunity for benefits? You can't afford to be without health insurance now. If this is a "small carrier", understand working there can be a blessing or a curse. Just as easily one or the other. Make sure you feel confident in them and make sure you know who you're boss is and that your check will be there.

    you always run the risk of the new job turning sour, but if you did a good job otr with no problems they should take you back. the time you spend away from your family is time you will never get back,and before you know it your children will have children of there own.

    yeah i almost got into one of these deals end of last year.....sounds almost exactly like the same pitch he fed me.....same route, pay, everything.....sounded real good until we were about to wrap things up and he told me to go ahead and give notice to my current carrier.....something was gnawing at me about it as you know what they say about things that sound too good to be true.....and i always trust my gut it's almost never wrong so i never gave notice where i am now and wasn't until i had the keys to the new gig

    the week i was supposed to get with him to road test and get the final particulars down and start he wouldn't return my calls and i've never heard from him since even though i've sent him several emails and calls to him about the 'good gig'.....still haven't heard from him again. if i'd taken him at his word and quit my really good otr gig for the regional thing i'd be sitting here out of work now and wondering what the hell just happened.

    just be careful and don't burn any bridges before you cross the one you want to go over lol

    you know what you have now. you always run the risk of the new gig not being as advertised or falling through altogether especially with a small operation like that.

    having said that if you go for it good luck to you.

    As others have said, if the new gig falls through sometime in the future, at least you are still driving OTR. Much better situation as opposed to trying to get back into trucking after having a year or three off from driving.
