It was great to be home over the weekend. I really enjoy spending time with my church family.

I left GP yesterday morning going to Uxbridge,MA for 0900 Friday. Should be back in DFW area by Sunday night for a Monday morning delivery. I'll find out for sure tomorrow. This will give me 3600+/- miles for the week with a chance to take the rest of Monday off to reload some hours. Then I hope to do this run again.

How does Poly do it? I mean remember many years ago when most companies were paying in the 0.20's and JB suddenly jumped up to 0.40+? I don't know what their specific plan was, but it must have had something to do with tighter screening of drivers and then taking over the industry with massive volume. Since the economy is so bad and huge mega-corps are offering cut rates and actually factoring in 80% driver turn-over into their profit, how does a company like Poly do it? They sound super driver friendly and I'm curious how they can sustain that if other companies like Crete are going downhill but would probably defend their own policies somehow as based on cost-saving economics or whatever. Sorry I'm not really business wise, but just curious why there are so few companies that just treat the driver with basic respect.

poly is a private carrier we haul our product to our customers thenuse broker loads to get trucks back toget another outbound load turn overis low because you pick your loads you do your job and they leave you alone it really simple that treat there drivers well andwe make good money

I will add to what RHJ posted by saying this, Poly does not view themselves as a trucking company. They are a manufacturer that has trucks to help deliver their finished products, as well as other hauling the company needs done in the process of manufacturing their products.

The pay at Poly is not high, the pay at the other trucking jobs is low. Crete pays well, but the miles are not as good as Poly's. I will admit I see numerous ways Poly could save money like Crete does, but then that would mean they would have to institute routing & fueling solutions which would take away our ability to adjust our routes according to weather & traffic conditions. This ability is something management stressed during orientation they wanted us to utilize. They treat us as grown men & women & expect us to make the decisions that best helps us make our deliveries & pick-ups on time.

It could also be that the trucking part of Poly America (our parent company) is a subsidiary they use to garner better tax write-offs since they are a very profitable private manufacturer. Obviously this is conjecture, but if it is true who cares. At least they are using that ability to provide us drivers with a good pay rate per mile.

Something Crete needs to learn how to do in the worst way! T'wood be nice to be treated like a professional inventory relocation expert and not just a mindless steering wheel holding robot w/the seat warming option installed!

It sounds similar to Walmart transportation...A company within the Walmart corporation. When I did the Walmart deal, the manager stressed that delivering safely, legally and on time to 'our customers'(meaning the stores) was the way that things are to be done. Their drivers are highly paid, treated like people but are expected (and trusted) to do the job they were hired to do...hey Crete (and any other random trucking company suits)...I see a pattern here! If you take care of your people, your people take care of you. Respect your people, you get respected...screw with the people....etc.

Got my Jerome ID and Evans CO stops off. Now I'm in Grand Island NE till Monday. Will get in a 34 reset here and deliver Monday morning and then it's down to Lubbock TX to final out Tuesday morning. I need to get back to GP so I can get a PM done on my truck.

On a side note, I started training today for a 5k run that will be held on Oct. 27 at Bernheim Forest in Ky. I ran it last year and then quit training when the cold weather became too much to bear. I'm out of shape(yet again), but today's walk/jog went pretty well.

I left Grand Prairie last Tuesday going to MA. Reloaded in Watkins Glen,NY on Friday for delivery in Grapevine,TX on Tuesday the 24th. I called customer this morning to ask if I could deliver today. They said yes. So I called outbound to let them know I would have enough hours to do a short run after delivery this morning if they needed the help moving a short run. If not I would wait till my original outbound time of tomorrow. I was offered a load to New Braunfels,TX that delivers tomorrow (24th) at 0730. PERFECT! I will delivery in the morning & still have just enough time left on my 70 to make it home (San Antonio) for the rest of the day while I wait to gain back hours. Thinking I may take a nine inning vacation tomorrow evening & go watch the San Antonio Missions play ball. After 4000 miles in seven days I could use it.

Info for those who have not gotten a reply to your application: I spoke to the person who does recruiting today face to face. He said they have not called many people over the last few months because they were only down about 10 drivers at that time and he needed to catchup on his other duties. Also the lady that did handle most of the recruiting duties had been transferred to another department & he had spent the psst three weeks helping train her replacement. He told me that Poly has a driver pool of 310 spaces & they are currently only about 15 drivers short of that limit, so they are in no hurry to hire or call back potential recruits. He did say that now the new lady in recruiting was feeling more confident about answering potential recruits questions they shortly began looking at applications to fill those 10-15 open driver slots. So good luck & be patient.

This company sounds outstanding... what's the catch? Must be one of those places that has 25% turn over and you can't get in the door... good for those drivers in the door but not so good for us drivers wanting in...

I don't know the exact rate of turnover, but I would guess it to be quite low. For those wanting in, one word, PERSISTENCE.
