At least it's warmer than this time last week. But it isn't melting...it's blowing. I know the reason that stretch of road sucks...but I can only speculate as to the nickname...my guess would include a derogatory slang term for asian people...so I won't guess here.

Well I made it through another snow storm. After Laramie, the Elk Mountain express was running at full throttle. There were some places where you couldn't see 30 feet ahead of you. Got all the way thru it and was planning to stop in Wamsutter for lunch. 15 miles before the exit, the road turned to pure ice. I managed to get there and get in and grab a chicken tender snack and decided to roll. About 15 miles west of Wamsutter, the roads were dry. Then just before Ft. Bridger, the ice was back. Just before exit 37 going uphill, someone didn't keep their speed up and got stuck in the right lane. The Sisters weren't too bad compared to the rest of the roads I had traveled today. I was planning on getting to Ogden, but with all the extra time it took to fight the roads...I pulled into the Peelot in Evanston and was worn out.

The truck did pretty good again. These super singles ended up being much better in the snow and ice than I would have ever dreamed. However...with all the sub-zero temps last week, my supply line for my windshield washers split...so I improvised. When I got to Council Bluffs yesterday, I went to the Sapp Bros. shop and got 10 feet of 5/16 rubber tubing and ziptied it up good and safe and I was back in business.

This is kinda what my view was around Elk Mtn yesterday. And that was at a place where I felt safe to snap a pic...there is a truck in that snow cloud somewhere

Thank God(and I mean that sincerely). Backhaul called. Rolling to Poly West. I got to thinking(I know, I don't get paid extra to think) I have seen posts where we were sent to Green River, WY to pick up...hoping I wouldn't be sent with an empty trailer back across that way today or tomorrow...I was relieved to hear Lionel say roll to Poly West...5 seconds after I hung up with him..."Hello Outbound!!!". I can be in Henderson today...but I may pull up a little short and wait at a truckstop tonight and check in tomorrow...depends on what Outbound has to offer. Having things planned like this really makes one wonder, why in the world do companies like Crete run by the seat of the pants system like they do. Knowing ahead of time is so much easier and less stressful

sorry. Actual Walter Cronkite dubbed that stretch of I80 the snow chi minh trail the first two years it was finished, as it was closed more days than open due to blowing snow. This was the early 70's. After 2 million dollars spent on snow fencing, the next year, the road stayed open a little more than it was closed... your picture shows what it is like today with rows and rows and miles and miles of snow fencing... imagine trying to cross that with all the snow crossing the road.

Well, it's after 9 am Poly time, and I still haven't heard from Outbound. Although, since I didn't know for sure I was coming to Poly West until yesterday morning...I didn't get on the board until then either. Not a huge problem...with the miles I ran down here to Las Vegas yesterday I will be in the mid-7000's for the month (1000 miles carried over from the load that took me home for Christmas). Plus I went through 2 snow/ice storms in 7 days, so if they don't get me a load that picks up until tomorrow...that would be fine, I could use a reset. I missed getting one last week by 2 hours because of the stupid 2 nights between 1 and 5 am rule.

I haven't been on the GP yard since 12/22. And if freight goes like usual out of PW, as in to the northwest...it may be after 1/22 before I get back there again.

I did see about a half dozen Poly's rolling up I-15 yesterday...here's hoping they have some loads left for the rest of us.

the thought of what it would be like w/o snow fencing crossed my mind...too bad the government screwed up when they routed it thru there. About the only thing they could do now is build an Elk Mountain bypass and route it where it should have been to start with...that way when it gets bad there would be an interstate route to avoid it instead of using the US route that may or may not be any less nasty
