That's scary , sitting all day and then having to drive all night.I fear this situation.

Wasn't sitting, I was rolling...watching the clock...and wondering. I picked up a load from GP moving it to Cottage Grove... but I feared that I was going to be so far down the list that I would either get the loads no one else wanted (as in the N/E) or the really multi multi-stop loads. I left GP at 16:30 on Wednesday by 1745 on Thursday I was in Clear Lake, IA...which is almost 900 miles away... In fact, had I been a bit more ambitious on Wednesday and pushed myself to northern OK, I could have delivered on Thursday...and had all day Friday and Saturday to run to Mooresville. And had hours enough to put in a 34 before delivering. My next load finals out just a few exits from our Riceboro customer, so I figure I am going to get a Riceboro to Laredo once I am empty.

The human resources fellow did mention how many drivers pick and choose their loads and avoid certain regions like the north east.
Also there was mention of how many drivers are just happy to meet the 2000 a week minimum. But if your a go getter the miles and money are there.

As a wife and not the one out on the road, why does everyone avoid the NE? I think my husband told me once before, but I can't remember, lol.

Lots of toll roads, Limited parking, tight streets, low bridges, lots of angry people who are in a hurry, and lots of traffic. But I probably missed a few :)

No need to fear that situation. You have a lot of learning to do about the system here at Poly. Once you understand the system a little better you'll see that isn't likely to happen. Once you understand it a little more you'll see what I mean. So many of your questions will be answered. I can tell from many of your questions is that Poly is much different than what your used to or whatever. Should be a lot of nice changes for you. Welcome to your new world at Poly! :)

Especially the lack of parking, the traffic and the tolls (made more unpleasant because Poly doesn't use Ezpass). Plus the roads suck...but after this winter...the same can be said for 2/3 of the U.S.

Do you guys carry toolkits with you on the road ? Or do you leave repairs to the diesel techs ?

I've always left the wrenching to the professionals. However, I believe everyone should carry a small tool kit on the truck. There are so many small things that need done from time to time and tools come in handy when something small needs done. A little screw here or a small bolt tighten there. It's all in how you feel about this type of thing. However, I believe having some tools can pay off sometimes. We are all tight on available space on these trucks but a small kit doesn't take much room. No wrong choice either way.

When you first start out, the shop gives you a small tackle box and a goody bag with spare lights, airline repair splices, a couple crescent wrenches, etc for quick fixes. I have my own small tool kit for minor stuff, but leave most of the DOT "ticketable" repairs to the ASE certified folks.
