As far as background checks, the DOT requires a company to examine 10 years of your history...if any gaps in driving jobs they will require an explanation...sometimes proof of time away from trucking. If laid off and not otherwise employed, then unemployment statements should be satisfactory. When I first moved to FL, I spent 8 months without a regular income...I was buying my house through my dad, so I had very few bills and made due with local farm labor and odd jobs I could pick up here and there...when I got hired and trained to drive by the chicken processing company...and then moved to a regular trucking job a few years later, I had to jump through hoops with paperwork to prove that my time off wasn't spent doing something illegal, or that I wasn't a guest of the state or federal penal system. Once I had that done, I was hired by my 1st commercial carrier and things have gone smoothly the other few times I have changed companies...

ft white i live in live oak do i dare ask who you are with now? i have been with a company out of jacksonville for over 10 yrs now. dec starts my 38th yrs driving althoug some of the carriers i have worked for are oob i dont see a problem with that
