got to enjoy the hospitality, and that he took the time to escort you in... It does change ones thinking and planning skills living 45 minutes from the closest civilization... I grew up not knowing what air conditioning was, we just did not need it... and working without a coat in the morning dew, and could see my breath, while the sun warmed the air...

most people can not survive in that life style and do not want to.

I guess you could say, I desire to live away from population but not far from civilization. At one time I wanted to move to the remote areas in the mountains of Montana...but as I got older, I find it necessary to be within a reasonable distance to supplies...I mean, we live 25-30 minutes from the nearest Walmart, but we have a local/regional grocery chain store 15 minutes away and a Lowe's 20 minutes away. (Our local lumber/hardware store is run by a very old couple that have never learned what friendly service is to people they don't know by name) but I still live in an area that if I'm outside working, I can find a fence post to wet if I need to, and the only one's that see me are the deer and squirrels (and maybe that nosey retired cop that recently moved in a few years ago that is going to be shot one day when the locals catch him snooping on their property)

Is it me , or on some of these cross country back hauls things are really tight ?
Im under one now , that's going to require a substantial reschedule of the delivery time .
( it's a load of diapers and baby wipes for family dollar )
Do I just let back haul do their thing or next time should I say something like ,
" I've only got enough hours to get 360 miles a day , can you find me a few short hops
    back to Base ?"
What would the resident Poly veterans here at the forum do ?

back haul doesn't deal with delivery times. The people you deal with on back haul issues like delivery issues or OS&D(other than any lumper fees) is the broker you got the load info from. The only time you deal with Poly on back hauls would be if you have a mechanical failure that will cause serious delays that will prevent you from delivering. Then Poly can get another driver to repower the load off your truck so it gets fixed and the load gets delivered.

And the time to tell them is ASAP. Remember, the broker is our customer and we're all about customer service

:biggrin_25521:Mev reading comprehension is not your friend. Hopefully, you use a GPS instead of a map so you don't have to read it:biggrin_2559:. He already knocked out both of his stops but his backhaul doesn't pick up until Monday.

when backhaul gives u the load and u dont think u can make it i would tell them, they may just say to work it out with the broker, then i would call broker and try and get it changed.

also if u are running short on hrs u could put in for a backhaul the day after u deliver ur outbound load to gain some hrs, or take a 34 if needed after u deliver, remember u put in for a backhaul when u are available, just like u do for outbound.

I see what you mean now ,

Don't necessarily need to do a whole 34 , just stretch it out a day and buy myself just enough

to get back on the road with a strong recap going .

    Good idea , thanks
