A regular occurance on that stretch of highway. Happens in the rain as well. Des Moines to Walcott, probably several hundred trucks a year crash through there. The Ohio Turnpike is another one. Only thing I can guess is ice and rain combined by strong winds with an extremely high traffic volume.

The wind wasn't that bad, maybe 25 knots at most and the road is pretty mild, no real big hills or tight turns. Most of the ones in the ditch were at the bottom of a hill or on the outside of a curve so it looks like they were going too fast for the conditions add in the low visabilty of night driving and they were pushing their luck. I'll drive in bad conditions during the day within reason but once that sun goes down I'm parking it until morning.

Today a new problem started on the truck. Maybe one of you have an idea? When I switch from low to Hi range and I get a bad grinding noise as opposed to the usual click and clunk. Shifts fine other than that. Just started today. Every time I flip the splitter UP it grinds its way into HI range. My first thought is that it is an air problem; the transmission not receiving air to initiate the range shift. Will have to get it by a Knight shop I guess. I am glad all this is popping up now before I lease this thing.

I hope it isn't that bad. I am not rough on it at all. I would be really surprised if it needed some heavy work like that with only 307,000 miles on it! Will have to wait and see. I am delivering this on the 3rd and will head to the shop over there. Not looking forward to it.

Just got the final payroll message for the year. Gross pay will be a little over 65K for the year. It has had it's ups and downs but that is a good year if you ask me.
jomar68 Thanks this. -

Before you guys took on your lease did you get everything fixed on the tractor before signing the paperwork?
I'm guessing they make sure the mechanical issues are taken care of but what about small stuff like a drawer latch not locking or fixing a busted hvac vent. -
I haven't leased it yet. If things are wrong or past the service interval you write it up and they will get it fixed. I really like this Volvo but I have a couple things to follow up on before I go for it. I have been sending lots of emails and making lots of phone calls for about 4 months. The Volvo is a good deal for sure but I have a couple other things to check out first. All I know for sure is that by the end of February I will be leased on either in this truck or a different one.
