I'm headed to Swift on Monday! I have my CDL already, but no experience...
I'm pretty nervous about the road test... Any do's, don'ts.. Any tips for a newbie with only 1 road test in my life(my cdl exam)...
Going to Swift...

Sell yourself. I mean sell yourself as an employee that Swift needs on their fleet. Have a great attitude with the examiner, be very thorough with your pretrip and listen when he/she tells you things even if you already know that which they are telling you. After the outside pretrip there will be the In Cab inspection they will usually allow you to review your notes for a few minutes before conducting that because they have no choice but to fail if you miss just one of the points of the air brake test. Memorize it, know it, live it, breathe it. As you go through each point of the brake test count if off in your head, or use your fingers, or even have a piece of paper to make the 7 marks on if you have to. The driving part, remember to look out your mirrors, relax, own the situation.

biggest thing you can do? just be yourself. DO listen to everything being told....dont think you know it all....and take notes. You start thinking about the driving test, and worrying about failing, and you'll fail. just relax and be yourself. its that easy. -
hey, that sound alot like........uh.......nevermind...this is a family forum. -

Don't forget to double-clutch your shifts, brush up on your PTI especially the air brake test, try to know the names of things, but definitely know what you're looking for, when stopping for a traffic light, make sure you stop far enough back that you can see both lines of the crosswalk and be sure to check your mirrors all the time. Turn your head to look at them so your tester can see you're doing it.
Otherwise, be neat and clean, but don't bathe in your cologne.
And don't sweat it. They know you're new and raw. Just be very cognizant of safety.scottied67 Thanks this. -
does swift make experience drivers do pre trip and in cab test during orientation now, when i did my orientation in july of this year at the decatur term. The guy came into the class room pulled four of us out to road test and backing was bumping a dock door around back.
