I've landed a job with Knight. Going to K.C.
Would those that have recently been through orientation please give me am idea of what all they do?
I need detailed info on the Human Performance Evaluation part of the physical they do.
You know, the part where you lift so many pounds so high so many times?
How hard is the driving test? It has been three years since I drove. Thanks in advance for your input.

the driving test can be passed by a monkey and/or illegal alien who doesn't know how to read or speak english. when it comes to being stopped at a scale, i hope you enjoy going through multiple level 1-3's several times a month. i just had another level 3. it was the third #### level 3 in a ##### month! fortunately for myself, no violations were found.

in orientation, they'll tell you all kinds of lies. especially when it comes to doing pre and post-trip inspections, and finding OOS things, and they'll go, "yeah, just call the shop and we'll get it fixed!" hahahahaha, that's one massive lie. even when you're loaded with beer or something else that's quite heavy, have a flat, or two, call them, and they'll demand you drive it to the nearest tire shop. they'll do all they can to skimp on doing any real work on their equipment.

how do you like driving 800mi and getting paid for ~700 miles? better yet, how do you like having almost three days to haul a 680mi load? the whole company is basically on e-logs now, too, and they still operate like we're on paper.

you'll also be forced on per diem. make them switch you off it right there on the spot. they'll argue with you. be prepared for that.

the lifting portion of the physical is something i don't remember too much of. it wasn't difficult. it's so easy richard simmons could do it.

The guys who didn't pass the physical part of orientation in my husbands class were because the of the UA (3-4) and one guy who's blood pressure was too high, oh one guy had heart trouble. A bunch more washed out because of traffic violations. Too bad my husband didn't wash out of orientation...would have saved us 6 weeks of hell.

    I'm sorry but I don't understand what UA (3-4)is.
Please explain the driving test in more detail. Like how they want you to execute right hand turns, shifting thru intersections, and across RR tracks? Is the backing part just a basic straight in back. You know, the usual routine. I know I'm asking alot of questions but I'm nervous since I have not drove for a while.

UA (3-4) / Urine analysis (drug test). He meant 3-4 people did not pass the pee test.

    DougS and livinlife Thank this.

I, a driver, just gave two road tests. Both guys were experienced, so I basically told them that if they didn't run over anybody, or put the truck in the ditch, they were OK. IOW, you should be OK.

The physical test, now that's a #####. It is much harder than anything you will ever do as a driver; I was told (2 years ago) that it was "just to establish a baseline". So that if you get hurt on the job, Knight will only have to pay for medical to get you back to where you were when you were hired.

OTH, I'm old and not in that good of shape, and they hired me.

Have you got two legs and two arms? If so, you should be OK.

they'll most likely also sandbag you on paying the driver unload. i just did five stops, all driver unload of carpets, and they only paid me for the extra stops. the unloading was quite a workout. i haven't actually worked that hard since i worked at walmart supercenter in north scottsdale. i saw the PO for the extra stops, didn't see the one for the unloads, and asked about it on the qualcomm. i got a call back from my obviously annoyed dispatcher asking why i was asking for it. he said he'd have to speak with the CSR. what in the HELL does the CSR have to do with getting my payment for the unloads?

bigblue, wanna chime in and tell me what i did wrong? oh wait, you'll probably document this and rat me out (again). fortunately there are quite a few 26 year old drivers at knight who have been driving for as short a period of time as i have.

Why did I quit Knight? I love unloading trailers for no pay! But only if their scheduled for 3am. Waiting on my DM to get around to coming into work while I sit empty and awaiting my next load is tops! I loved it when my day started at 0300 thus terminating my 14 hour clock at 1700, only to get a load picking up at 1500 100 miles away. Oh those silly rascals only paid 78 of those 100 miles but we had some good times at our forced fueling stops, oh yes so much fun exchanging dirty looks at one another and avoiding eye contact at all costs. Oh Knight that's a top flight outfit right there.

Oh and Bigblue, the man asked you a question....

Sorry, I guess I assumed everyone knew what UA was. I was trying to be polite, :biggrin_2556:
