I suspect that you’ll need proof that your loved one requires that care.
Moosetek13 and bzinger Thank this. -
It probably won't mean any more miles for me, as I pretty much work as much as I want.
But it might mean a better choice of loads.
That's assuming so many drivers are so selfish, as the OP seems to think they will be.Dockbumper Thanks this. -

Darling, sweetie, honey...
Many things could be called 'name calling' if they are used in the right context. Even the 'nice' names.
Nice comeback with the nice name, by the way.Aamcotrans Thanks this. -

well, a month off will most certainly be put to good use, looking for another job, and not have to even think nor consider giving a 2 week notice.
i suggest cleaning out the truck before ya'll get on home.
never in my life, have i ever seen such malarkey as this, giving people money to stay home.
if of course, this story is real.RockinChair, Last Call, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't know which I hate worse - the Socialists handing out, "free" money or the Wage Slavers OUTRAGED that there might be some provision to care for a blood relative with a serious medical condition other than taking care of them in your spare time outside of working hours. As someone who has cared for a grandfather after a stroke, a grandmother with terminal cancer and a brother with prostate cancer over the years I can tell you that it's not a drop in for 30 minutes on your drive home from work kind of deal.
While my family is large and prosperous enough we wouldn't bother with the free money, I can see where a young family or a single parent with a sick kid could easily find themselves in a tight spot if they had to choose between caring for a sick kid and being able to pay rent and buy food. If a CEO has to wait another year to upgrade his jet to a GV or a shareholder has to borrow some Grey Poupon from their neighbors for a quarter it doesn't bother me. -
as old as mankind. Back in the old western days there were folks hanging out at the local bar
begging for handouts because they didn't want to work.
Personally I think it is more of a "perfect storm" scenario. For years the cost of pretty much
everything has been going up...................except wages. It is pretty difficult to pay bills on what
most companies are paying. But the real truth is the good companies that pay fair are NOT having
trouble hiring or keeping help....................it is a handful of "take advantage of their employees"
companies that are suddenly finding it even more difficult to hire help.
There are a number of companies here in our area that are NOT hiring................they don't
need to.snowlauncher and bzinger Thank this.
