They prefer one year of driving experience. They will train someone with no flatbed experience. They run western 11, Midwest and western 11, all 48 and 48 plus Canada and Alaska.

COTC will pay for your passport and tell you how to seek permission to enter Canada. Sometimes time is all it takes and possibly to pay a fee. They can explain it a lot better to you than I could.

You might check out Doug Andrus Distributing in Idaho Falls, ID. They run both reefers and flats, and I believe they run east as well, though I am not sure about New Jersey.

I honestly don't know. I would guess so, at least their reefer division.

They started as a small company some 50 years ago, and have grown consistently since then. They have a very nice facility and nice equipment from the appearance standpoint. I have never worked for them so I am not endorsing the company, but they seem to be top shelf for larger fleet companies.

This. Not everyone likes flatbedding, and it's good to have a fallback that doesn't involve switching companies.

Don't worry yourself so much about "seeing the country". You won't. At least my experience is that other than looking via brief glances from the interstate, you don't really experience much of what this country has to offer, unless you're not too concerned about making money and can afford frequent hometime in different places, rental cars and hotels while OTR.

For example I've passed through Chattanooga, TN at least five times this past year, and every time I see the billboard with the crystal caverns waterfall I think, "Wow that looks awesome...oh well" and then the 70 hour work week drives me to keep going instead.
