Been solo with USA for 10 1/2 months and stopped by the house tonight before delivering in Fort Worth tomorrow. Had an envelope from C1 with my certificate and stated that my tuition was paid in full and even had a little refund check with it. I know USA states that your 1 year doesn't start till you go solo so it was a nice surprise to see that in the mail. Im guessing that they still hold you to the one year but not sure. Anybody else know how they do it? Not that its a big deal since ill be with them at least the next couple months I imagine.

Congrats! I just finished C1 training for USA. I am enjoying my first day home before heading to Vandalia for orientation.

I remember reading the first 6 months of repayment is $40 a week (26 x 40 = 1040) and 6 months repayment at $50 a week (26 x 50 = 1300). The two repayments total $2340. Your agreement was to repay $1900, I believe. In a perfect world you would get a $440 refund after 52 weeks. This does not explain your situation but may lend insight to how contract satisfaction may have occured and a small residue is received after 10 1/2 months.

Congratulations! You are part of a very small group that fulfills their contract. You might want to share your secrets of success with all the others that are constantly on this forum enquiring about C-1/USA.

There ya go. You made an agreement and stuck to your word. That's integrity and says something about you in itself. So few people do that in todays society. Good job!

Part of it is what falcon said , it helps to get a good DM so a little luck is nice. But I also learned early in life to pick your battles wisely. I went into with the idea that I wanted decent hometime and would just roll with the punches when it came to loads and weekly miles. Not to say that I was ever rude or acted unprofessionaly to my DM when it came to hometime. If it came time to head home and I wasn't headed in the right direction then I just sent a nice message that I was due home and he would straighten it out. But I had to do that a total of 2 times in the last 10 1/2 months. And when it came to loads , if I had the hours then I took the load. I didn't take it and also call and complain, I just took it and did my job. There were issues here and there but unless it happened on a consistent basis then there was no need to bring it up. And since a lot of people get on here and ask about miles, my miles for my time here have averaged 2200 a week counting hometime weeks and time spent in the shop. On the weeks that I was out the whole time it averaged out to about 2500 a week.

Thats another thing I'm glad to see, the part about picking battles I mean. So few new drivers seem to understand that. I see guys post with 2 months experience talking about how they are going to have to call and cuss everybody up to the vice president out over one issue after another. I don't understand how this mentality comes about. Where did these people work before X trucking company? Have they never held another job? I suppose they lived with mom and dad until they turned 21 and then went to C1. Maybe they just screamed at their parents every time things didn't work out right?

You seem to have a great attitude and you have figured out the key to success. I think with most major carriers, there are two different ways you can push. Either push for more miles or more home time. Rarely do the two ever coincide. I used to be about the most miles I could get. I'd stay out 4 weeks straight and push as hard as possible and end up with close to 3000 mile weeks (or more) each week. Lately I'm about the home time. I go home every other weekend and I'm in the 2-2200 mile/week thing. Not great but I'm not starving either. A lot of the new ones jsut can't seem to figure out that going home every weekend, or every other weekend, just doesn't leave a DM, Load Coordinator, or anybody else a lot of room to get you lots of long loads and then still manage to turn you around to get you home on time. On top of that, why do people never seem to forget that the new guy always gets the shaft?

Is it possible that it is an amount of miles vs. time in the seat? it may be beaten by the miles that you have ran.

No it is a contract. USA doesn't have anything to do with it. It is Driver Solutions gig. I took the middle plan. $500.00 up front. After one year of getting hired on you can leave. Otherwise your year doesn't start until you get your solo truck. Which can be around 6 weeks later.
