In the truck job guides it has a few of them that state a guaranteed minimum for company drivers and I was thinking that may be a good place to start out and then as I get more experience move to a higher paying company. Anyone have experience with these types of companies and if so how did it work out for you?.

Many times the money u maybe looking to get will come faster in flatbed. But I drive dry van. It just, mostly depend on what company u sign with. Example Tyson is refer and they start everybody out at .39mi up to 3 years. Then over 3years u get more money. One company I worked for I started at .33 because I had haz then there was a company wide raise by this time I had a year and I jumped to .39 because of time and haz. I had to depart from that company. The company I am with now have 2 pay scales anything west of MS river is .33mi no matter of how many years u have. Then anything east of MS river my mile pay is .35 I could have worked for higher paying companies but they had things I didn't like. Depending on how many miles I run I may be loosing $20-150 a week but it's worth it because this company have what I want and where I want to run. But then I'll get a .01 raise every 6 months till topped out at .46mi but it's semi difficult finding your perfect fit it takes time.

Those companies usually have all kinds of hoops and ladders like you must be available for dispatch. So If you are on hometime. You won't get it and a few other things. I guess its better then nothing, but I would definitely ask the drivers. I know KB use to do it, and core carrier or whatever that company was with the awful green and yellow mack trucks. Think STI not sure.

As I understand it, from reading about it here with no personal experience, the guaranteed minimum amounts are recouped from the periods where the minimum is exceeded. Let's use $3000. One month you only earn $2500 and they pay you $3000. The next month you earn $3500 and they recover the $500 they "overpaid" you the previous month and so only pay you $3000. I would consider such an arrangement nothing more than an intention to deceive and steer clear.

Amounts to another gimmick - gpsman has the same understanding of it as I do.

May be comforting to those living paycheck to paycheck, but a lot of them may as well just say . . .

    "Guaranteed minimum WAGE"

Good on you for getting a recruitment book from a truck stop - so many wannabe drivers here don't even bother to research - just throw a dart at the board, ignore all the advice and then go forth and fester.

I do intermodal in Chicago. I am payed a guaranteed $200 any day I work. Guaranteed M-F, if there is ever no work I still get paid. It has never happened, there has always been loads in the year I have been doing it.

Weekends are extra, at the same rate.

If that's true then it is a scam and I would never work for a company that does that. Thanks for the info and I will be sure to check it out with any company before I signup.

Our company just started a $1000.00 a week guarantee for the new drivers. How I understand it they pay you $1000.00 a week, however if you average $1100 a week for the quarter at the end of the quarter they will pay you the extra $1300 as a bonus as long as you don't have any accidents, cargo claims or late deliveries.
