I'm looking in to a trailer purchase. What I'm wondering is how much demand there is for hanging beef these days? I made a good living hauling hanging to the east about 12 years ago. I know the drawbacks of owning a railer. It's a heavy empty weight which can make a back haul a little tough and it's an expensive trailer. I'd like to get back in it because of the few people that can or are willing to haul it. When I was at it before I pulled 99% of my loads out of Joslin, IL and headed to NY, NY or Detroit, MI. I know Anderson and KB still haul it, I think Chandler went under. Any input would be a big help. Thanks

I don't think I would want to go into Detroit with a load of just about anything.

45 loads a day, each load most likely being in 53' trailers, that's a lot of beef.

Many years ago, (1974 - 1978),I worked part-time at a supermarket. Truck drivers often hauled in swinging beef that could weigh as much as 250 lbs. a piece. Those drivers were often riddled with back and joint problems.

I am hoping that you do NOT have to handle that kind of weight. As you already know, swinging beef is heavy.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

There is less than 10% of the demand for swingin today as there was when u were talking about while some supermarkets still have meat cutters--there are less and less and even fewer if the whse have butcher depts like they used to--Not sayin u can't make money w/it but the demand has decreased dramatically--even at the meat mkt in NYC u see less and less swinging--Still some into Chicago area--but also not like it once was--@least Chicago stil has a couple washouts that will deal w/railers and hooks--I still have 2 long&2short hooks--but I only use them to drag palletts to tail--lol
    Good Luck
Oh and Detroit's no diff than any other major metro--so lets not start another omg NYC thread bout Detroit now:D

I would go with a 53. And not worry about swinging meat. I agree with the other guy here about there being a very little demand for it. Go haul LTL. You'll be a lot better off. Trailer wont be hard to get back hauls either. And as far as Detroit goes I wouldn't worry. I go to the produce market just about every week. Its not as bad as people say.

Most people do call it swinging but I got the habit of calling it hanging from an old boss. He liked to call it that and liked us to do the same.
