Sometimes I mention on the CB that it's a bad idea to strap down I beams and especially without the little corner guards, oddly a dozen people tell me to mind my own business .

I don't do flats but I thought a "belly wrap" is supposed to prevent this?

I agree @tucker, steel on steel is the safest way to secure a load. Fiber straps rubbing on corners of metal will fail. Saw a guy in Denver pulling a load of long I-beams with just straps, at every bump, the trailer flexed just enough to loosen a little slack. Told him about it, and got the "you drive your truck, I'll drive mine" attitude. Before he got off 270, one strap broke, and two were loose, and his load was shifted right. I just honked the horn and waved as I drove on by.

And I was just thinking how dangerous flatbedding can be/is. Sad. Gotta leave space.

Thanks, @Charlie Mac . . . and R.I.P. driver. Flatbedding is a world and class of its own; them guys are a brotherhood and I see why. Out of tank / asphalt season, I occasionally haul a few I-Beams around, and securement is paramount. HOWEVER; when you pick up a pre-secured/pre-loaded gig, it's anyone's guess. There's a few (many) posts on here from those guys, and i respect the heck out of em.
#####. All I can say atm....

Wow ! What a shame ! ...kinda confirm what I thought when I picked up track rail recently , I chained it all and used 3 straps on it also to make me sleep better .

Lepton1, tsavory and G13Tomcat Thank this.

Looks like no headache rack. You can just see the top of the frame under the jacked sleeper.
Is that his hat on the edge of the piece that went through the glass?

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
