We found no temp recorder at all
And our reefer is to old for them to do a print out. So the insurance company wants us to take the trailer to a mechanic and see if there is and possoble issues with reefer that could cause the temp to be off.
Now the customer is trying to toss a no resale form at us. I thunk we are at the point of donations now to food banks and shelters. There is nothing wrong with the product.

If this is "ice cream" with a high milk-fat content (not like a sherbet or sorbet which is mostly water) and the box did truly run above about 10-15 degrees F for more then 6-12 hours, it's probably separated and no, it's not any good if that's the case, for anyone.

If the inner cases are "bad" the entire load is bad. Freezing it back "hard" is not going to help re-mix the cream and fat that has separated.

I assume the chute was in tact all dumping all the air to near the rear as it's supposed to but if the chute was dumping out the air towards the front or middle of the trailer, maybe only the back half of the load is bad.

Hauled ice cream out of LeMars for 2 years, sometimes a split reefer with ice cream in the front and yogurt in the back. Ice cream starts deteriorating as soon as it is made. Most grocery stores mis-handle the product and over freeze it so its rock hard. If you are going to be running these loads in the summer months you had better have a good trailer, its not all down to the refrigeration unit. Check your under floor insulation, if you have had a trailer tire blow out it will rip the insulation out of the floor and it seldom gets replaced. I had 2 wireless thermometers in the trailer that reported to a readout i placed on top of my dash, it also recorded to cover my ###. It also had a pager i carried if the temp varied too much.

There is a difference between a refrigerated trailer and one designed to haul frozen. When hauling ice cream the unit was set to -18°.

You get stuck with the insurance claim (or you pay out of pocket) then they turn around and try to tell you you aren't allowed to sell it? Tell them your insurance company found a buyer and they don't need to worry because to them its the same they've been paid. Don't tell them any more than that. I wish I could just order a truckload of something then sell it to the carriers insurance.

Dont get caught up in your own logic: how long has ice cream been sold & when did the first refrigerated trailers come to market with a pull down -20?
(The market hasn't matured enough to say only -20 units can haul ice cream...i'll concede its getting close)
