I've seen trailers, both lowboy & step decks, with generators on the neck that power winches. I park at a trucking company when I'm home and all of their lowboy trailers have generators that run a hydraulic pump, instead of spec'ing a truck out with a wet kit. Some winches are powered by batteries that are charged by the tractor when the 7 pin is connected, but I've only seen those on smaller trailers

My winch tractor loaded the double drop with it no problems. We put a fair lead at the back of the neck and chained the neck to the frame of the truck if the cable was out over it.

Hydraulic winch and wet-kit run by a small gas engine... Shouldnt be too hard to fabricate it all inframe of the trailer.

It’s pretty tough to hide a winch big enough to have a useful amount of single line pull and enough cable to do anything with it.

Just thinking about that. The most logical place to store it would be in the neck... but when loading , the neck is detached from the trailer... how powerful of a winch would u need to pull say 30k pounds+ worth of equipment up a trailer?

If its rubber tired and rolls freely not that much. A couple of ton of pull would do it. But something like an auction piece with soggy tires, dragging brakes and wheel bearings and who knows what else ####ed up you could need a big winch quick. 15 or 20 tons maybe. Machinery you can’t have too much pull. I’ve had the steer axle of my tractor right off the ground with a 2 part line off a 35ton to get a crippled D8 on.
