My update of Old Dominion Freight Lines CDL training: Its going great so far. As I have been very busy driving and learning the line haul life. We have satyed in hotels, motels and i've stayed at home while in training the past 7 weeks of training. I have finally completed it and now getting ready for my CDL Test on Tuesday 15,2013. I have been taught alot and am anxious to get out teaming with another driver by Thursday of next week. Their training by far is number 1. All their trainers work with you and don't curse at you when you make a mistake. Believe me we all make mistakes when learning to drive. I've been to Burmingham,AL...Atlanta,GA......Harrisburg,PA...... Hamburg Indiana,Waynesboro,VA....Greensboro,Ashville,hicory,charlotte, North carolina. Columbia South Carolina, and many many more. Those are just off the top of my head. I love the drop and hook life too. Its been a great journey so far. Of course with God everything seems better and better everyday. So now that I have updated everyone, Heres a message to the next person looking for a great CDL school. Earn while you learn with OD. They are the best. I have brought home as much as 600.00 a week while in training too. Just to mention soe companies don't pay that well after you already have a cdl. Well folks, see you out on the road and to all....Please drive safe....The most dangerous mile you will ever face while driving is the next mile. The last one is already behind you.

Richard; You have made a wise decision. I have had an account w/ ODFL since 2003 for my business. They are by far the best carrier to hire. I've tried others from time to time, but always went back to OD.

My drivers were great guys too. They've gone to other carriers after years of driving w/ OD and they all regret the move. Like you said, they have a no rehire policy. They did like working for OD, but they couldn't stand the local dispatch.

Interestingly, none of the OD LTL drivers that came to pick up at my warehouse had prior OTR experience (well, except for Larry). Tom got his CDL on his own, no school, and he walked in to apply for a job. They asked him to back up a truck to the dock, he did and was hired on the spot. LOL, things have changed. That was about 15 yrs ago.

They were LTL, so paid by the hour, not the mile. You sure got lucky as many of these LTL drivers would love to do line-haul but I guess they'd have to get in the waiting line.

Huuum, 2 yrs teaming seems a bit much but the paycheck will be nice. :)

Congratulations and goodluck w/ the teaming!

Thx for all the comments that have been posted. I passed my DOT CDL Test today and now have a CLASS A CDL and am about to take out as an Old Dominion Line Haul Driver. I'm excited too. I'm gonna answer the last question that was sent to me. When I start teaming I am only required to be out 6 days then home for 34 -48hrs. That is my call being OD takes care of their drivers. This is my last post on this forum. The whole reason that I started this posting was to show people out there that earning your CDL can be done with a great company instead of a run you raged company. Folks, do your leg work like I did and make a commitment to yourself. I would not even touch the handle on a truck with any other company for what they pay starting out. My frend just completed 1 yr with OD and cleared bring home 77,000.00 last yr alone. That was his first yr and I seen it for myself on his check stub. Thats why I'm proud to be driving for the Best of the Best company. OD.... Drive safe out there and keep God with you out on the roads. God Bless All America's truck drivers. They are the heart of freight deliveries.
