I came real close when I was doing local.
Heard the springs creaking. Slammed brakes.
It was when I was moving new trailers too lol.
Broke the flip cover off, and cracked the electrical receptacle on the new trailer.
My trailer supply line failed a few hours later near the cab.
You may want to replace yours, or be ready to.

Never forgot the lines, but forgot the landing gear once. I was dropping an empty after a 12 hour day, and I was going slow, so the trailer dropped on my rear tandems.

Had a friend get into an argument with a panhandler at a truck stop a couple months ago. Told the beggar to F off, and in the middle of the night the guy pulled his trailer release. It was loaded, and didn't drop until he reached the intersection for 2 on-ramps. He heard it happening and sped up instead of braking, and it dropped gently down on the gear without damaging anything. His bad for not checking it though.

If you sit and watch some drivers you will notice this. They will pull the trailer brake and pull pressure on the 5th wheel. If done right it is impossible to pull that pin all the way out. A quick and dirty tug test was always my last item on my pre trip.

Yep I do the same. The only time I saw that fail was a guy that high hooked his trailer and didn't realize it. He got a block away and dropped the trailer rounding a corner.

Air lines, both, around 2010. THWACK...THWACK! Stretched, but not broken.

Then, about two years ago, dropped a box, didn’t like my positioning, went back and hooked just the red to move it a few feet. Yep...forgot it. That one broke. Luckily, there was a truckstop next door and I swapped it out in short order. But I felt smaller than my already less-than-imposing 5’6”.

I would have done it once, a year ago, if a yard dog hadn't seen what I was doing and blower his horn and yelled at me. It was a really annoying blind side back, and I was in a hurry. I lost track of what I had and hadn't done.

Like your guys, I did everything except disconnect the connections to the trailer. By the time I stopped the truck, the connections were so tight I had to back up to loosen them to disconnect them.

Same deal here I stretched mine out before they popped loose and slamed into the back of my sleeper. About a week later I was doing a flip in the Petro parking lot in Sparks when the supply line broke in half. Had to get a bobtail to move my trailer into a hole for me. I though about how lucky I was that it hadn't snapped when I was driving down the road somewhere.

I remember the first time I ripped off my airlines, and the last time. But, I don't remember how many times I did it in between first & last.

Everybody has at least once. I never broke my air lines. They popped off in one piece and I got lucky.
