To all rookies:
Pulling away from a dock mid-unload, whether actively unloading or not, is a good way to get yourself banned from the property!
Never compromise safety standards.
Was there no dock lock? Was there a green/red light system?
Mikeeee
have you guys removed your trailer from the docks due to an angry receiver?

I said in another thread that I got the cops called on me by a guard... and the other drivers tried to blame me. What the heck is wrong with some truckers? They love to demean other drivers for following the law and then stand up for the drivers breaking the law. Its absurd. -
Very true.but in this case that's what his company suggested him to do.So if he gets banned then its on his company.I would never pull away without telling my company what happened they they can deside. But on the other hand I probably would have ignored the rudeness and wait till im unloaded..I have delivers to a lot of customers that needed attitude adjustments. But its not like I see the same customer every day.

I had a shipper once get uppity and in my face because I wanted the pallets loaded a certain way. I told him "hold off I have to make a phone call." And he ran to his manager who came out and explained that can only load their way so we compromised on that. Point is don't be belligerent but nothing with being stern and asserting yourself. -
I pull a tank. Once a plant employee tried to convince me to unload 3,000 gallons into a 2,500 gallon tank. He refused to believe me that it wouldnt hold. One call to my safety department, who I guess called his safety dept and it was solved. We were not yelling at each other though.

I am sure there is more to this story. No one just gets cursed out without reason. I am sure you made a ####### comment that set him off. I hear one sided stories like this all of the time when one guy says that he was minding his business and got yelled at and later I find out the real story. I never been disrespected as a driver. Once I even got angry at an idiot lumper who loaded another truck with my product preventing me from going home when he already delayed me for two days and he was still nice to me.

Just the other day I had a manager of a store go off on me while delivering. All I did was ask her where the empty carts were that we bring our product in on, which I ask the same thing every time I go there. She went through the roof yelling at me about how she has no room, how my company keeps sending her more stuff, her home office keeps sending her more stuff and yada yada. She tells me she's keeping the empty carts to put her own stuff on. I really don't give a crap because that makes my job easier.
It pretty much came down to her having a bad day and assuming that I would be mad about her using the carts before I had a chance to say anything. Now, I talk to this lady every week. I didn't take it personal, I can always tell when she's having a bad day. When I go back later this week it'll be like it never happened and I'll have my normal, nice conversations with her. I just happened to be the lucky one that night. -
Everyone seems to be forgetting one thing here; he pulls cans!! This isnt direct customer freight, its from a freight forwarder and believe it or not, truck capacity is short so there is hardly any repercussion to the trucking company! Also in Intermodal, a typical trucking company may have 10 trucks and 30 loads to move that day and the same amount the next day; couple that with the loaded or empty cans have to be returned to catch the next train or boat out, that companies cant afford to miss cut off schedules and dont have time for the games shippers and receivers play! I guess thats why detention in Intermodal is just about an automatic thing! Flatbedders like to say "people are happy when we pull up and receive their freight" well in Intermodal its the shippers and receivers paying for shipping, chasis charges, and demurrage fees, so it actually gives the trucking companies the upper hand as if they get snotty or want to play games, no problem!! We will return it to the yard and let them pay storage fees for an import or $3-$5k to "roll" the box to the next train and or boat!
