I am currently having the trip from hell!

Starting thursday I was assigned a trip originating in Ft Collins, CO going to Santa Maria, CA delivering Monday. Sounds really easy right?

Well, the pickup appointment for the preloaded trailer was 10am, so I get there at 8:30am because this shipper always have the trailers ready to go early... I go to drop my empty trailer and they reject it because it's a 14ft tall dry van- (that my company specifically told me to bring). We usually drop 13.6 reefers there. So I have to take the trailer back to our yard in Denver 1 hour away and 1 hour back. OK fine. I get back about 11:30 and go to get my trailer. Guess what? Not ready. It wasnt ready until 8pm!

Ok fine, after waiting all day basically, I hook up to the trailer. Some TOOL ran the reefer out of fuel! Knowing it would need to be primed, I head to my fuel stop 30 miles away just as I run out of hours for the day.

Our breakdown department tries to talk me through priming it, but it still wont start and they send a shop out to fix it. Well, after about an hour and a half of trying to help the guy fix it (25 degrees at midnight after being up all day), he cant. They send me to a shop the next morning- after 5 hours sleep- get lost trying to find it because the driveway looks like someones house.

The shop fixes it in 5 minutes. So I drive to our next yard about 8 hrs away for fuel. I scale the truck just for fun and notice the rear tandems are about 34,500. What the hell? Well, I had a load lock come loose and I have beer kegs rolling around the back of the trailer.

Didnt get permission to break the seal until this morning. After killing myself to repalletize the two pallets that got knocked over, I drive towards vegas. Had to chain up near beaver utah after getting stuck on the mountain on ice.

I made it to Vegas- it seems like everything that could go wrong is going wrong- you ever have a load like that?

    Wow:biggrin_2552:

Top this first week with a NEW company. Got my truck and get my load assignment. Go to the shipper and get the trailer pick it up and head towards Joilet IL. On the way to Joilet the reefer unit takes a dump blew a relay and shuts off. Called the shop they called TK and mechanic comes out gets it fixed. Deliver that load get my next load assignment going to Newcastle DE. Dropped the trailer I got the night before picked up the next one and the FUN begins. 6 hours out of Joilet the Alt in the Trailer blows. However I did not know it since the Gauge was busted. Reefer Unit dies that night in PA. I run a Jumper Wire from Batt Box to get it running. Deliver load go to Philly TK get it repaired since load was on such a tight sched that I had to get it there. Get unit repaired gage and Alt and new Battery.

Get next load from NY State for GA head to GA. Unit Crapped out again. Blown Fusilble link in the cycle Sentry circut flipped to Cont for rest of weekend. Deliver load and get unit repaired on Monday. Head to Eutaw AL for a load of Wood Veenar. however slight ISSUE called HURRICANE DANNY in the area. Find shipper able to sleep there. Wake up in the morning to find a 12 inch Tree limb has gone thru the Roof Fairing of my truck. Called safety Dept and Breakdown to let them know. I was told you are KIDDING RIGHT. Hand phone to shipping manager he goes he is not KIDDING. My crew is removing it as we speak. Then find out my father his having Heart Surgey and need to get home ASAP. Hell of a first week HUH.

Well, made it to Cali with no more problems. Weather is beautiful and the food is good.

Sorry to hear that Iron Eagle, problems from home always top anything out here!

I want to top that, I really do. Unfortunately, I can't. I don't run reefers, or flats, so most of my loads are boring as all get out. And even my bad loads don't compare to the nightmare reefers and flats can sometimes cause.

Well I haul bio-solids down here in Florida, just a fancy word for poop. Well as you know it rains here a lot, especially lately and last week was no exception, well long story short when it rains the "bio-solid" gets really nasty and when i proceeded to loosten my turn buckles on my tailgate I got a nice coating of some of Leon counties finest waste all over my shorts, shirt, and shins, and this happened about 4 times last week. Maybe not the trip from hell, but it sure makes for one hell of a day.

It probably would, but when you're in and out upwards of ten times a day it's not real practical, I just pray it doesn't rain, and when it does I bring a change of clothes.

Must be a Florida thing. We haul a lot of Black Kow manure for Lowes out of Oxford FL.
Not bad though, it's in bags, just heavy.

I've had many bad trips, most of them mechanical issues.

I used to work for an exporter and we would buy trucks & buses all over the country and bring them back to FL. I had a crew of 6 drivers, and basically spend months on end running second crap.

Of course most of the stuff we bought had sat a good while and would develop issues once they got a few miles put on them.
