If you where thinking about Dbl's/ Triples, that is pretty much going to be LTL and it is mandatory to have it to get hired on. I cannot think of any LTL company that does not require hazmat.

Of course not. I also disagree with the advice give in this thread. There is absolutely no need to hold a hazmat if all your ever going to do is haul temp controlled products for human consumption. This is called knowing your customer base. In fact I had hazmat when I started at WSE. I asked at orientation about this. I was told straight up it was my call but I would never be asked to haul hazmat. If you don't have hazmat and are thinking about changing jobs this situation can be fixed within a few weeks. In my opinion keeping hazmat in the temp controlled business is silly. What makes it silly is how easy it is to get the endorsement if needed later on.

If all you are hauling is food, don't need it. There are companies out there that specialize in refrigerated HazMat, and they pay well. Some of the mega's will also haul refrigerated HazMat, and the reason they prefer you get one. When I was at a mega, if there was no food to be hauled, they gave me HazMat loads, which helped when it slowed down.

Agreed. I was told when I asked several weeks later the company saved a good bit of money on insurance because of not hauling hazmat. It comes down to knowing the customer and just asking your employer. If you are never going to need the dang thing no use in going through that process every time you renew.

I would have them all save passenger. I will never haul humans. There is something grotesque about talking freight.

I hauled cheesecake, chocolate, and liquor without a hazmat down into FL during my training. If any lady passes you and figures out you have those 3 things in your trailer, you will have a legit hazard on your hands.

Of course. Keep your hazmat. You worked to get it and paid for it too.

I had mine and sometimes hazmat went into reefer for temp to prevent overheating with a possibility of problems.

I turned in mine a long time ago to remove a dispatcher who did not care for obeying Hazmat bypass rules in the baltimore area. He can go swim the bay if he cannot wait 40 minutes for me. (Crossing keybridge instead of tunnel) It was very satisfying to show him a minted replacement CDL updated with no hazmat for his load packet next day.

And you wonder why I have difficulties with dispatchers sometimes.

    UsualSuspect Thanks this.
