This has probably been asked many times before but for some reason when I search, I couldn't find an answer. I'm wanting to get my hazmat endorsement and was told some weird info. The lady at the dmv said that I could take take the written test but the way she worded it, I wouldn't have to pay anything then. Would only have to pay $100 when I wanted the background check done. Does this mean that the actual test is free until I have my background check done, or does the check have to be done the same day? I've tried actually calling my local DMV but can't seem to get anybody to answer. This is in Mississippi by the way

My hazmat was $5.
My twic was $120 ish -
Did you do that background and finger print test? It's like 80. I think just to get a new card is $5
-
then comes the fingerprinting. in fact here, we have to have the finger-printing FIRST, THEN go to the DMV for the hazmat test, as the TSA sends the finger-printing results to my DMV. NO clearance from the TSA, means NO hazmat testing....here. -
the $100 is for your US gub'met background check.......I guess you might as well get your TWIC at the same time (dunno, because I didn't get mine). The other $5 or $10 is whatever your state charges for the test.
Go get your background done first......takes about 2 weeks to come back. Then go take the test. -
$80 sounds about right and iirc twic was $105. -
for me to take the hazmat and tanker : 17.00
TSA fingerprint 86.00
New license w/ endorsments; 12.00 -
I haven't done anything yet except practice tests online. That's why I was asking because it seemed kinda odd that I wouldn't have to pay to take the test right then.

New Mexico charges $10 for the test, $127 for the background check and fingerprints, and I don't remember them charging more for the endorsement on the CDL. The test is easy if you read up, just study the material, take some money down to the MVD, go for it. Not hard to do.
Dave75 Thanks this.
