Before coming to Mercer, I avoided company terminals like the plague. It's different here. If I gotta kill time, and it's on my route, I stop at our yard every chance I get. Mercer guys are just Good people. That's not common in this world. And sure as hell won't find better company at some #### truck stop on up the road.

and with the parking, free showers, free washer and dryer, free electrical plug ins, 6 tv rooms , and a bunch of nice folks to hang out with why would ya go anywhere else. spyder I am unloading at ft ap hill in va, loading to la. then reloading for Valdosta,ga then home til the 1st. you staying home til after the first also once ya get in??

 

Loaded to Newport news out of Wisconsin for 2.81 a mile. Three extra stops but only having 10k lbs on makes up for that. Still looking for a reload to get me to the house next. And yep, one I go home I'm staying till after the first. Hopefully I won't do anything stupid like decide it's a great time to pull my tranny. Then again, I could probably milk that for a month and just stay home till February.

 

Lol I'm not really nervous about making money. I figure if I could figure out how to make money where I'm at now, I can probably make money anywhere. I have read the 'why do some fail' thread. It was a good read. In fact I think I have read every post from every thread dealing with both mercer and LS. And a bunch from F2F. I don't plan on making another move and wanted to make sure that I felt comfortable with the company I moved to. And I asked a lot of questions. I think poor Julie in recruiting has my number on speed dial And many of the folks on this forum have shared a lot of info to help someone like me out. For that I am grateful.

Getting to to spend the weekend in the area after orientation, may be a blessing. The one thing I havnt been able to work with is the load board, and having the weekend to look around it without having to drive during the day might really help me a lot. So now I'm looking forward to that.

 

no spyder, I actually think your post said it all in why do some fail thread. in fact , hope ya don't mind, I told them in contractor relations they should copies of your post and hand em out to everyone in orientation.

 

You know, please do correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm seeing it like anywhere else you go. If you've got some common sense about you and have the desire to do the research, learn from others, take some initiative and put your ##### in gear, you can succeed. It's the ones walking around waiting for it to be handed to them on a silver platter that tank. You could safety pin a copy of that thread to the shirt of everyone at that orientation...but just like here, (and not to offend anyone) you can't fix stupid!

 

It's not always stupid. In many cases it's more lack of experience. Especially for first time truck owners and those coming from pay per mile carriers. Learning freight lanes takes time.
